3 Years Later, Bob Odenkirk Is Perfect for 93% Rated Horror Movie Getting Official Remake 

Bob Odenkirk has spent years portraying a character who can talk his way out of most situations: Saul Goodman in the series Breaking Bad as well as the spin-off series Better Call Saul. In Vincent Must Die, however, Odenkirk will have a predicament that not even Saul Goodman could talk his way out of: people attempting to kill him solely based on the fact that he made eye contact with them.

An American remake is moving forward three years after Stéphan Castang’s 2023 French-Belgian film was released. The Conjuring screenwriter David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick is attached to both write and direct (via Variety). We must mention that the role hasn’t been cast yet. But Odenkirk would be the perfect lead actor in the remake, methinks.

Vincent Must Die Turns Everyday Life Into a Nightmare

The original movie featured Karim Leklou as Vincent. Vincent is a graphic designer who finds out that everybody around him wants to kill him for some reason. Even making eye contact with them is enough to provoke them into a frenzy of violence. He does meet a woman who may be the only person who is not out for his blood.

The movie has a wonderfully weird premise. Avoiding other people sounds considerably easier than it really is in our extremely social modern world that is built around a sense of interpersonal human connection. Even routine tasks such as shopping are like going into a battle and require a similar amount of caution. The film derives much of its dark humor from Vincent’s feeble attempts to manage all this.

The movie appears to capture that very real fear, the social anxiety wherein we are afraid of making innocent gestures since they could result in something horrible (if not exactly violence). Vincent Must Die first premiered in the Critics’ Week program at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival and received highly positive reviews. It holds a Tomatometer score of 93% as of September 8, 2026.

Why Bob Odenkirk’s Comedy Chops Fit the Movie

Now, let’s find out why Odenkirk is singularly suitable for the role of Vincent (or whatever its American version will be called). If you haven’t already, you should watch his sketch comedy show called Mr. Show. His career since then is a reflection of what he set out to do in that 1990s show. He knows how to commit to an absurd situation without constantly signaling that it is funny. Vincent does need that. His situation may be ridiculous, but his fear must always be believable. 

And then there is Better Call Saul. As Jimmy McGill (one of the best anti-heroes in TV shows ever), he would make a desperate attempt to recover his dignity, both pathetic and funny. There is a strong case to be made that Jimmy or Saul may be one of the top 5 TV characters in terms of depth and complexity, and apart from brilliant writing by Vince Gilligan and team, Odenkirk’s performance is also a huge part of that. The emotional flexibility that Odenkirk displays as Jimmy would suit a protagonist who is frightened, isolated, and understandably fed up.
