2 Years Later, Even One Piece Is Yet to Top Dandadan’s Most Spine-Chilling Scene

It’s been almost 2 years since Dandadan Season 1 Episode 7 dropped on November 14, 2024, and honestly, there hasn’t been a single One Piece episode that could top its emotional depth since then. The tragic backstory of Acrobatic Silky, which eventually tied to Aira’s past, made fans feel emotions that surely no one expected when diving into Dandadan – an anime with probably one of the weirdest and hardest-to-explain plots.

The only One Piece episode that came close was Episode 1129, “Kuma’s Past – Better off Dead in this World“. Still, for definitive reasons, Dandadan Episode 7 edges it out.

How Dandadan Episode 7 Remains Unmatched by One Piece

The Dandadan episode even has a rating of 9.7/10 on IMDb, while none of the One Piece episodes since Episode 485 have a higher rating. And even when compared to episodes with similar ratings, the sheer depth of the Dandadan episode’s themes easily makes it stand out from them all.

For the 23-minute duration of Dandadan Season 1 Episode 7, “To a Kinder World“, it narrates a tragic and probably even self-contained story that might have even worked as a movie of its own. The episode took viewers to the past, where we witnessed how the fierce yokai, Acrobatic Silky, even came to be. And it got really dark with the whole presentation. The episode delved deep into themes like poverty, child trafficking, prostitution, and most importantly, a mother’s love.

Especially when it was finally revealed that Acrobatic Silky had always been the mother from the past whose daughter was kidnapped. Although it wasn’t explicitly shown in the anime, it’s believed that her daughter died. The mother eventually resorted to s*icide and thus turned into a wandering yokai, searching for her daughter for eternity.

Finally, when Okarun and Momo defeat Acrobatic Silky in the present timeline, Momo uses her powers to transfer Silky’s remaining aura and successfully revive Aira, who was on the brink of death after the conflict. So, when we consider the entire scene and the episode as a whole, none of the recent One Piece episodes, or even any One Piece episode in general, comes close.

Why the Aira x Acrobatic Silky Episode Is Still Dandadan’s Peak

Episode 7, especially Acrobatic Silky’s past scene, is inarguably the best moment in the series itself. The direction, animation, soundtrack – everything nailed the scene. Especially the moment Aira calls Acrobatic Silky “mother” after she is revived; that moment cemented the episode as an indubitable masterpiece.

Even none of the Dandadan Season 2 episodes’ official discussion forums on Reddit have higher upvotes, nor do the episodes have a higher IMDb rating. Fans unanimously agree that the Aira x Acrobatic Silky episode is the greatest in the series. It’s even more fascinating that despite One Piece having an advantage with its long-time fanbase, Dandadan manages to impress more fans despite being a newer series. Now the question is, would Dandadan Season 3 be able to surpass the Acrobatic Silky episode?
