In the world of One Piece, some Devil Fruits do not just make their users stronger; they make them useful in almost every part of a fight. The series has some of the strongest Devil Fruits, but Marco’s Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix stands out for a different reason.
It gives him attack power, defense, speed, recovery, and even the ability to help injured allies. The Mythical Zoan first appeared in Chapter 553 on August 10, 2009, and later made its anime debut in Episode 463 on August 22, 2010. Even after all these years, its balance is still hard to beat.
Marco’s Phoenix Fruit Is One Piece‘s Ultimate All-Rounder
Marco from One Piece. | Credit: Toei AnimationMarco’s Devil Fruit is one of those rare powers that seems to have an answer for almost everything. It lets him turn into a phoenix or a phoenix-human hybrid, while its blue flames allow him to recover from serious injuries. He can also use those flames to heal other people, although their effect on others is different from the way they restore Marco.
This already makes the fruit much more useful than a simple attack-based ability. Marco can fly across the battlefield, block attacks, take heavy damage, recover, and jump straight back into the fight. During Marineford, he even used his phoenix form to intercept Kizaru, showing how quickly the fruit could be used for both movement and defense.
What makes it even better is how naturally all these abilities work together. Marco does not have to choose between being a strong fighter and a useful support character. His Devil Fruit lets him do both.
The phoenix itself is also a perfect match for the power. The mythical bird is linked with rebirth, while Marco’s blue flames allow him to recover from damage and keep going. That gives the Devil Fruit a strong identity instead of making it feel like a random collection of abilities.
Even After 17 Years, Marco’s Devil Fruit Remains Hard to Match
One Piece has introduced a huge number of Devil Fruits since Marco first showed his powers. Some are far more destructive, while others have strange abilities that can completely change a battle. Still, very few offer such a clean mix of offense, defense, movement, recovery, and support.
This becomes even clearer when looking at other Yonko right-hand men in One Piece. King’s Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Pteranodon gives him incredible strength, flight, and powerful attacks, while his Lunarian abilities make him extremely difficult to hurt. Katakuri’s Mochi Mochi no Mi is also incredibly flexible, letting him create and control mochi while working perfectly with his advanced Observation Haki.
Shiryu’s Suke Suke no Mi, meanwhile, gives him the powerful advantage of invisibility. All of these abilities are dangerous in the right hands, but Marco’s fruit covers a wider range of needs without relying on just one major advantage.
That is what makes the difference between being powerful and being balanced. Akainu’s Magu Magu no Mi, for example, is built around devastating offensive power. Its magma can cause enormous damage, but it does not give its user the same kind of recovery and support options that Marco has.
Bartolomeo’s Bari Bari no Mi shows the other side of the comparison. Its barriers are incredibly useful for defense and protection, but that is where most of its strength lies. Marco’s Devil Fruit, on the other hand, allows him to attack, defend, fly, recover from damage, and even help other fighters stay in the battle.
That makes Marco’s ability unusually complete. Another Devil Fruit might be stronger in one specific area, but very few can do so many important things at once. And that is why, even after 17 years, Marco’s Devil Fruit does not need to be the strongest in One Piece to stand out. Its real strength is that it can do almost everything a fighter could want, making the Tori Tori no Mi, Model: Phoenix one of the series’ most balanced Devil Fruits.
So, now the big question: Is there really another Devil Fruit in One Piece that can match Marco’s Phoenix Fruit in overall balance? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
