When I say this, I say it on behalf of everyone: this year passed by like a blur. But what saved us from the turmoil of ‘life’ are great movies and TV shows that came out in 2024.

This year saw many high-profile and fan-favorite TV shows, including Silo, Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, and more. However, amid the OTT crowd, we might have missed out on some great TV shows ranging from sitcoms, and action-packed mystery thrillers to sci-fi series.

As OTT platforms are becoming our go-to option for streaming shows or movies and we can see a dip in cable subscriptions, it’s getting easier to lose track of all the shows released every year. 2024 gave many shows that deserved much more love and attention. In this article, we have curated a list of underrated TV shows from this year so that you can enjoy them while waiting for new seasons or original shows to come out next year.

1 Bad Monkey

Vince Vaughn starrer Bad Monkey is a comedy-crime drama based on one of Carl Hiaasan’s novels. Vaughn plays Andrew Yancy in the show and with his performance he proved to be the perfect casting for the role. He is a police detective who was deported to an inferior position to conduct restaurant inspections after an incident.

However, when a severed arm is found on the beach in South Florida by a tourist, Yancy believes he has another chance to redeem himself. Despite having a unique storyline, Vaughn’s brash yet fast-talking and charming presence, and amazing performance by the rest of the cast, the series didn’t get the attention it truly deserved.

2 Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage

Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is a spin-off of Young Sheldon and the storyline follows Georgie Cooper (Montana Jordan) and Mandy McAllister (Emily Osment) – the newlyweds. The 2024 TV show is set in the mid-1990s that revolves around their life and how it goes about after they move in with Mandy’s parents to save money.

CBS’ Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage is a spin-off of a spin-off, and it is quite easy to miss out on such a show. However, it gives the same 90s sitcom vibes and it stands out on its own merit.

3 Supacell

If you are a fan of superhero and superhuman stories and haven’t watched Supacell? You have been missing out big time. Despite delivering a fresh take on the whole superhero subject, the British sci-fi series remains one of the underrated TV shows of 2024.

4 Cross

Based on James Patterson’s novel of the same name, Cross has also been translated into movies, with Morgan Freeman and Tyler Perry having previously portrayed the character Alex Cross. However, Aldis Hodge brings in a new perspective with his performance in the series.

Alex Cross is a homicide detective and forensic psychologist who can tap into serial killers’ minds. He is someone you wouldn’t want to mess with. The story follows Cross as he investigates a Black activist’s death. What happens in the process is quite gripping. If you like mind-bending thrillers, you can binge-watch before the year ends.

5 St. Denis Medical

NBC’s new sitcom, St. Denis Medical, is a mockumentary drama that revolves around an underfunded hospital in Oregon. The overworked staff has a mix of a workaholic lead nurse Alex (Allison Tolman), a narcissistic surgeon Bruce (Josh Lawson), and an executive director Joyce (Wendi McLendon-Covey). A workplace comedy shown in a mockumentary is nothing new for the viewers.

This format has been popular for years in the television industry and it gave many popular sitcoms as well, including The Office, Parks and Recreation, and others. Be that as it may, the show is one of the most underrated TV shows of 2024 despite having a crisp storyline and talented cast.

6 Manhunt

Manhunt is a historical crime thriller about the situations following Abraham Lincoln’s assassination. The miniseries revolves around Lincoln’s Secretary of War, Edwin Stanton (Tobias Menzies) who embarks on a journey to arrest presidential assassin John Wilkes Booth (Anthony Boyle). The search scenes are quite intense and intriguing.

Many might have heard John Wilkes Booth’s name but people know very little details about him and his arrest. Despite having such a theme, the show is an underrated one, and the reason is its streaming service Apple TV+. The streamer has a habit of premiering shows with minimal to no promotions, which is why it doesn’t reach a larger audience.

7 Sugar

Sugar, featuring Colin Farrell is one of those underrated TV shows that you might regret missing out on. Despite the stellar cast and intriguing storyline, it has never attracted a huge audience.

9 Dead Boy Detectives

You love a little supernatural stuff? Give Dead Boy Detectives a watch. It is an adaptation of the DC comic of the same name and despite having two charming young men in the main lead Edwin (George Rexstrew) and Charles (Jayden Revri), it didn’t receive much hype. It can be considered one of the most underrated TV shows of 2024.

The storyline revolves around Edwin and Charles, the two deceased teens who lead a detective agency after avoiding their afterlife for decades. They have a true gift in figuring out the strange mysteries but things become more interesting when they meet Crystal Palace (Kassius Nelson), an amnesiac medium. If you have time and want to binge-watch something light but horror-coded, this should be your pick.

10 Presumed Innocent

Based on Scott Turow’s novel, the series version of Presumed Innocent is led by Jake Gyllenhaal. Gyllenhaal plays Rusty Sabich, a prosecutor who finds himself in legal trouble after he becomes the prime suspect in the murder of his colleague. Slowly, when secrets get revealed, things take sharp turns. Who’s innocent, who’s not?

Though the storyline gets a bit slow at times, the actors pull it off with their performances in every dark and steamy scene. Despite having talented and well-known actors, the series didn’t receive much attention from the audience.
