“Your Honor” Season 3: Real Reason Bryan Cranston’s Crime Drama Was Canceled Abruptly

Bryan Cranston’s remarkable acting skills shone in everything from Your Honor to Breaking Bad. Unfortunately, Your Honor, the crime drama, was unexpectedly canceled after its second season.

Showtime has indicated there is interest,

he said. Cranston explained that just in season 2, the way the story ended made him doubt if there was a justifiable reason for extending the show any further. He added,

If it happens, fantastic, but it’d have to be some great reason to keep expanding in this world.

As the storyline progressed, Cranston didn’t see himself returning as Michael Desiato. The character’s arc at the end of the season was concluded properly. He admitted,

I don’t know about being in it because my guy’s back in prison.

He had further stated that should a third season be developed, he would not be against the idea. Sadly, it never happened, and he appears to be entirely content to let this story end.

Cancellation after failing viewership

Your Honor premiered in December 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. The show quickly became a hit with viewers, peaking at around 700,000 weekly viewers, according to a report by Collider. The show was praised for its strong storyline and for Cranston’s stellar performance.

By the time the second season aired in January 2023, the show’s viewership had dropped significantly. The addition of well-known figures like Rosie Perez only made it more difficult for the show to maintain its audience; only about 250,000 viewers watched it each week. Compared to the numbers from season 1, this was a significant drop.

Critics had conflicting opinions about Your Honor aside from the decline in viewership. Rotten Tomatoes gave the series a 67% rating, which wasn’t enough to keep the show going for much longer. The program was canceled due to a combination of declining viewership and a lackluster response from critics.

Your Honor gained popularity after the cancellation

Surprisingly, Your Honor managed to resurrect itself on streaming networks despite being canceled. Similar to how the legal drama Suits unexpectedly became popular on Netflix not long after it had concluded, Your Honor has also been gaining popularity among fans. Fans, though hopeful, may not get to see the show make a return.

CBS Studios’ boss David Stapf addressed the idea of a potential third season in an interview with Deadline. He said,

We love the show, and we’re hoping that it can continue, but it’s a little too soon to know or to tell. We would like there to be a Season 3, but we’re ways away.

Stapf did not provide specific details on plans for another season. If Your Honor continues to find success in the streaming world, it could potentially increase the chances of a third season happening.

Bryan Cranston’s plans

It is true that Bryan Cranston intends to take a sabbatical shortly. In 2026, Cranston intends to take a temporary leave from Hollywood in order to spend more time with his wife, Robin Dearden, according to an interview he did with GQ UK.

There’s more in store for Cranston. He intends to sell his share in Dos Hombres, the mezcal company he co-owns with Aaron Paul, and close his production house. He explained that he would be relocating to France for a minimum of six months, allowing them to simply calm down and concentrate on their relationship.

I want to change the paradigm once again,

he said, referring to his desire to explore new possibilities outside of his acting career.

The fans may find this decision disappointing, but after decades of hard work in the entertainment world, Cranston deserves this break.

Lifetime Achievement Award

Even though Cranston’s time on Your Honor has ended, he’s staying busy with various projects, including an upcoming appearance in Seth Rogen’s new comedy series The Studio, which will stream on Apple TV+. However, he received a special acknowledgment that made all of his efforts shine.

Bryan Cranston received a prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award at the Santa Fe International Film Festival this year.

Along with the six Emmys, two Tonys, and two Golden Globes, this award is a great addition. Cranston is most famous for his legendary role as Walter White in Breaking Bad, which was filmed in New Mexico from 2008 to 2013.
