The Saw Creek blaze, which was last mapped at seven square kilometres, was discovered Friday and is believed to be human caused.

All evacuation orders and alerts affecting about 200 properties issued by the Thompson-Nicola Regional District and the Village of Lytton have been lifted, and residents can return home. An evacuation order from the Lytton First Nation remains in effect.

The wildfire, which had shut down part of Highway 1, forced hundreds of residents to flee their homes and led officials to declare a state of emergency. The blaze happened nearly five years after a wildfire destroyed most of the Village of Lytton on June 30, 2021, killing two people.

The B.C. Wildfire Service lists the Saw Creek wildfire as under control, meaning it is not expected to spread.

Fire officials say fire activity decreased overnight thanks to cooler temperatures and light winds, and because of efforts from fire crews on the ground and in the air.
