In what seemingly is slowly becoming an annual tradition, the Stanley Cup appears to be in need of repairs.

The Carolina Hurricanes apparently have been partying a bit too hard with Lord Stanley’s mug since winning the NHL’s championship trophy on Sunday night, with the trophy appearing to have suffered some nasty dents.
In a video posted on X on Tuesday, a member of the Hurricanes – who defeated the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 6 of the final on Sunday – was seen carrying the Cup out of a local bar in Raleigh, N.C., named Teets with some noticeable dents around the top rim of the trophy.

Teets also posted several pictures and videos of the celebration on its Instagram account.
Players were seen getting behind the bar, on the bar and — in a time-honoured tradition — drinking out of the Stanley Cup.
It’s unclear how and when the Cup became damaged, but judging by footage from the team arriving at the venue, it likely was during the Teets portion of the championship celebration.
How else did the Canes celebrate?
The team’s wild celebrations with the Cup started on the ice after they won their first championship since 2006 and second in franchise history, going back to their time as the Hartford Whalers.
Coach Rod Brind’Amour – a former team captain who is now its head coach – was spotted tossing the trophy in the air to himself and catching it while on the ice in a now-viral moment.

Later on Sunday night, the Canes partied on enemy territory, hitting Omnia nightclub at Caesars Palace in Vegas and hoisting the Cup behind the DJ booth.
Has the Stanley Cup been damaged before?
This certainly wasn’t the first time that the Cup has been damaged amid wild celebrations by the winning team – and it’s not likely to be the last, either.
Just last year, the Florida Panthers got a bit too rambunctious with Lord Stanley’s Mug, denting it in at least two spots.

The first damaged section was at the top of the massive trophy, where the rim around the top of the actual cup section looks to have been cracked and dented inwards. This happened before the team even left the ice, but it isn’t apparent what actually caused the damage.

The damaged area was spotted on Wednesday — presumably after the team spent the night partying — at a local watering hole.
In a picture posted on social media, the Stanley Cup appeared to have suffered a rather large dent in the base.
Again, there currently is no evidence as what may have caused the damage, which surely will go down as some local lore.
