The young guns for hire, their names covered by the Youth Criminal Justice Act and known only as K.A. and R.R., pleaded guilty to numerous charges, including one count of accessory after the fact to reckless discharge of a firearm in the July 6, 2024, shooting death of 28-year-old Sulakshan “Sully” Selvasingam.

Another teen — who can be identified only as A.P. — had already pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the case.

The Pickering tow-truck operator was gunned down while sitting in his white Mercedes SUV at a Shell gas station at Warden Ave. and Ellesmere Rd.

“When I come to these court hearings and see these boys smiling at their parents and siblings,” said Selvasingam’s sister Krishiga, “I see boys with no remorse who don’t care about what they have done to our family, boys who don’t understand what a human life is worth, boys who think it’s OK to take away a child from their parents. I see boys that don’t care that they have destroyed a family and done damage that will last our entire lifetimes.

Teens helped killer find victim

Her older brother was like a father to her, she said, driving her back and forth to university and helping her with expenses. He took care of everyone and was planning the retirement of their hard-working parents, who had sacrificed so much for them when they fled the civil war in Sri Lanka for a better life in Canada.

“Everything he did was to repay my parents for the sacrifices they made for us and make their lives easier,” Selvasingam wrote in her victim impact statement.

According to an agreed statement of facts, the two teens — both 15 at the time — helped their friend search for Selvasingam and later destroy the car the killer used during the fatal shooting.

His murder is connected to the well-known violence in the tow-truck industry,” the Crown told Superior Court Justice Maureen Forestell last week. “Influential adults connected to the tow-truck industry recruited (the killer) to commit this offence. They had access to firearms and were prepared to engage in retaliatory violence within the towing industry.”

The youth are scheduled to be sentenced in July.
