Why Is A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder Ending After Season 3?

Netflix has announced a third season of its successful YA series, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. However, it also comes with the news that this season is going to be the show’s last. This season will adapt Holly Jackson’s third book in the trilogy, As Good As Dead.

The show made the decision to wrap things up after one more mystery, probably because Jackson wrote the novels as a trilogy. Jackson’s As Good As Dead was released with the subtitle, The Finale to A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, making it the final story in the series. With her close involvement in the TV adaptation, it is no surprise that the show went for a timely ending. Jackson also released a prequel novella in the series, Kill Joy.

The show’s first season debuted at number one on Netflix’s Global Top 10 TV list (English) and had 700 million minutes of watch time in its first week. The second season couldn’t repeat this performance, as it was at No. 9 with 1.8 million views on the streamer’s Top 10 charts in its first week back. However, the declining trend doesn’t appear to have an impact on the streamer’s decision. M.N. Miller of FandomWire shared that “the second season surpasses the original” in our review of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.

The third and final season will premiere on Netflix in 2027. In the U.K., the show airs on the BBC, while in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, it airs on ZDFneo. It will air on Stan and Sky NZ in Australia and New Zealand, respectively.

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder Season 3 Wraps Production

Netflix didn’t just announce the renewal of a third and final season of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. According to Tudum, a shortened third season has already wrapped production. This report aligns with the earlier rumor that Netflix greenlit two additional seasons of the show, following the success of its first season.

However, Netflix only announced a Season 2 of the murder mystery show in 2024. The third season probably entered production right after the second season. Holly Jackson, who also serves as an executive producer on the show, shared that she was happy to bring the series to a conclusion. She further added that the third book was her favorite in the series, thus making the third season her favorite in the show. She said:

She thanked her fans for the love and support and shared, “This has truly been an incredible experience, and Pip will be a character I will never forget. Book 3 is my favorite of all the books, so I’m very excited to show everyone what we’ve done. Get ready for a crazy time!”

From both of their excitement, it is clear that we are in for the darkest mystery yet in Little Kilton. And from what we know, Pip herself is about to get in major trouble this season.

What We Know About the 4-Episode Finale Run?

The first season adapted the first book, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, and the second season adapted the sequel Good Girl, Bad Blood. The third season will follow the trilogy finale, where Pip will have to deal with a new, darker mystery. The new season is directed by Tom Vaughan and is produced by Sophie Klein and Sophie MacClancy.

According to the book, Pip will suffer from PTSD after her previous investigations. The show already teased about Pip having an anonymous stalker, who keeps asking her the same question: “Who will look for you when you’re the one that disappears?” This storyline becomes central to the third and final season.

Besides Myers, Zain Iqbal, Henry Ashton, Asha Banks, Jude Morgan-Collie, and Eden H. Davies will return for the new season. You will have to wait for Pip’s last ride until next year.
