Battlefield 6 is gearing up for one of its biggest updates yet with the arrival of Season 4, fulfilling its promises mentioned in the 2026 roadmap. After months of community feedback and ongoing updates, developers are looking to bring back some of the classic Battlefield magic while introducing fresh content designed to expand the game’s scale and replayability.

From the return of Naval Warfare and iconic maps to long-awaited features like Proximity Chat, Season 4 is shaping up to be a major turning point for Battlefield 6. Here’s everything players need to know before the new season launches in July.

Naval Warfare Takes Center Stage with New Maps and Gameplay

The headline feature of Season 4 is undoubtedly the return of Naval Warfare, a fan-favorite Battlefield experience that expands combat beyond land and air engagements. Rather than functioning as a separate mode, naval combat will be integrated directly into Battlefield 6’s core gameplay.

This will allow players to seamlessly transition between sea, land, and air battles. Leading the charge in that front is Tsuru Reef, a massive tropical map that is set across a chain of islands surrounded by open ocean.

According to the developers, the map is even larger than Railway to Golmud, offering plenty of room for boats, aircraft, armored vehicles, and infantry squads to battle for control. Players can expect beach assaults, island-hopping engagements, and large-scale vehicle warfare that captures the unpredictable moments Battlefield is known for.

Season 4 will also bring back one of the franchise’s most iconic battlegrounds: Wake Island. Reimagined for Battlefield 6′s modern setting, it has been redesigned with Naval gameplay in mind. Carrier-based headquarters, expanded coastal combat zones, and new naval engagement opportunities aim to preserve the spirit of the original while taking advantage of the game’s updated systems and larger scale.

The addition of boats and other naval vehicles is expected to significantly change how players move around maps and approach objectives. Developers have hinted that Naval Warfare will introduce new gameplay systems as well, though more details are being saved for the official Season 4 launch.

Proximity Chat, Community Features, and What’s Next for Battlefield 6

While new maps, vehicles, and naval combat are taking the centre stage, Season 4 is also delivering one of the community’s most requested features: Proximity Chat. Scheduled to arrive later in the season, the feature will be available in both Multiplayer and REDSEC modes.

Depending on the mode, nearby enemies may even be able to hear voice communications, creating tense encounters and unexpected interactions on the battlefield. The developers view this as the first version of the system and plan to continue refining it based on player feedback.

Season 4 also serves as a bridge toward larger updates planned for later in the year. The team confirmed that the highly requested Server Browser and Platoons systems are both targeted for Season 5. These additions will give players more control over matchmaking, help communities stay together, and make it easier for friends and clans to organize in-game.

Meanwhile, Battlefield Studios continues to work on map improvements, ranked multiplayer support, vehicle balance updates, gunplay refinements, and quality-of-life features. The developers also teased larger destruction events for future maps and hinted at additional Operations returning in upcoming seasons.
