Whether he plays Monday in Anaheim, the first meeting of the teams since the Ducks defenceman ended Toronto captain Auston Matthews’ season with a knee-on-knee hit, remains to be seen.

Gudas suffered his own left leg injury on Thursday in Calgary. He did not play Saturday in his team’s loss in Edmonton. Anaheim coach Joel Quenneville says more will be known once the team returns home and Gudas is assessed Sunday.
A report said Gudas was spotted in a walking boot after the Calgary game, during which his leg bent awkwardly under him in a puck battle. Gudas had just returned from a five-game National Hockey League suspension for the Matthews hit, which he apologized for despite being a repeat offender with the department of player safety.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said Saturday night that Gudas has made it known to his team he intends to play Monday despite the injury. He would be anxious not to use any excuse to dodge attempts by the Leafs to make him answer for the hit on Matthews, which ironically the four Leafs on the ice at the time on March 12 in Toronto did not do.
It led to a deep reflection of how the Leafs need to upgrade toughness next season.
The Ducks have big playoff ambitions and there presumably would be pushback from Quenneville or general manager Pat Verbeek to not risk further injury. Matthews underwent season-ending surgery a week after tearing his left MCL in the collision.
