With every new snippet of information, the hype surrounding the One Piece live action gets more real. The recent accidental update regarding the casting of Miss All Sunday (Nico Robin) and Mr. 0 has sparked joy among fans. The actor for the latter, Jon Manganiello, has a long list of notable roles. However, the actress for Nico Robin, Lera Abova, is a fairly new face for most fans.

Her appearance checks all the boxes for the characters, but the lack of acting experience is concerning to some fans. Here’s everything one needs to know about Lera Abova, and this information is sure to cast away some of those concerns.

Who is Lera Abova? Everything You Need to Know Netflix’s Miss All Sunday

Lera Abova is a 31-year-old Russian model and actress. For those who are concerned about her acting skills, she has appeared in two notable projects so far: Luc Besson’s Anna and Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin. In Anna, Abova acted alongside the likes of Cillian Murphy and Helen Mirren. Her role as Maude has a carefree presence. Her sharp features add some enigma to her character.

These characteristics are present in Nico Robin as well. Initially when we were introduced to her as Miss All Sunday, she seemed like someone who couldn’t care less about the missions of Baroque Works, she was carefree. Besides these two projects, there’s one more upcoming project, where Lera Abova is going to be cast alongside the likes of Chris Evans and Aubrey Plaza

So even with the few roles, the actress shows promise and potential. Between her first appearance and the more stretched out scenes, the actress will get time to improve her skills, if there’s any need to. So, it’s safe to say that there’s nothing much to be concerned about on the acting front, given how the screen time of Miss All Sunday is minimal at present. However, there’s a bigger issue that is a cause for concern with this casting.

Here’s Why Nico Robin’s Casting Might be a Bad Decision

At present, Lera Abova’s age is 31. The same is true for Emily Rudd and most actors among the main five, who are closer to 30. Considering the time it takes for the production process, Abova will be much older by the time Alabasta is ready to air. Even Alabasta is just the beginning of what Robin’s character has in store for us. Her real importance slowly builds after that in One Piece. If the One Piece Live-Action continues for more arcs, the age of the actress might pose a problem.
This problem isn’t specific to Lera Abova but most of the main cast. As the character counterparts of these actors are still in their early twenties and their mannerisms are not as mature either. In this respect, Lera Abova might actually have it better. Her character counterpart, Nico Robin, is way older than the rest. Either the makers have already thought of a way around this or they never planned for the series to be so successful.

With the way the series is progressing, the former reason seems more likely. Netflix’s One Piece has introduced many concepts much earlier. They are trying to incorporate elements which get introduced way later in the manga. This might be an attempt to encapsulate a more fulfilling experience in the live-action. While it might not be a complete adaptation, it’s good to know that they are still aiming for the second best option.

One Piece Live Action is available for streaming on Netflix.
