Fans Who Trolled Kathryn Hahn in Agatha All Along: Why’re You Silent after Seeing Colin Farrell in All His Glory in The Penguin?

Both DC and Marvel camps have recently released a project each. DC gave us an Elseworld show with The Penguin starring Colin Farrell in the lead. Marvel, on the other hand, came up with Agatha All Along with Kathryn Hahn as the star of the show. But the two shows have received very different ratings since the premiere.

But it’s not just the ratings that have differed. The shows also have very different perceptions, mostly owing to the storyline they follow. But one thing that the initial episodes both seem to have in common gained some pretty stark contrast in viewer reception.

The Naked Nonsense: Agatha All Along Fans Call Out The Penguin Praisers

Agatha All Along premiered recently on Disney+, with two back-to-back episodes. But unfortunately, it has not faired too well critically or when it comes to audience reviews. The Penguin, on the other hand, premiered its pilot episode on Max and has been a hit with both. Colin Farrell received praise for his portrayal of Os Cobblepot when The Batman came out in 2022, but the show has taken it to the next level.

The difference in opinion came with one particular aspect that was part of both shows. The naked stars on screen. The Disney+ show saw Kathryn Hahn’s Agatha, emerging from the spell Wanda put her at the end of WandaVision, wearing nothing. She breaks the spell, and that leads to her being stripped of everything, even her clothes. Speaking to Variety, about this piece of Marvel history, Hahn told Variety:

I thought it was good to see her as stripped down, literally, as we possibly could, which spoke into her powerlessness at the present moment… She’s been stripped of all of her power at this point in the series. I mean, she really had nothing at that point, and so it became about illustrating that gap between that moment and her finding her power again.

While this seemed like a very poignant depiction of what the character journeys through, a lot of fans thought that the nude scene was quite unnecessary. Many even took to social media to voice their displeasure on the matter. But at the same time, a scene in The Penguin, where we see a fat-suit-wearing Colin Farrell naked and tied to a chair, did not get the same kind of reception from fans. And that does not sit well with Marvel, especially the Agatha fans.

The Penguin has been only our for less than a day, and fans seem unable to stop singing its praise. Colin Farrell has been lauded for his strong performance in the series, and the creator and showrunner are getting lauded for bringing the darkness and grittiness of underground Gotham out into the light. But that does not mean everyone is happy with it.

In fact, rival camp fans are pretty disgruntled over the fact that his fat-suit-wearing nude scene did not get the same fan treatment as Agatha All Along. They took to X (formerly Twitter) and did not hold back on remarking on this particular happenstance.

Well, there have been some reasoning behind the backlash Agatha received, and why The Penguin has been more or less exempt from it. The biggest being the show ratings: Agatha All Along has a TV-14 rating, while The Penguin has a TV-MA rating. While some may argue that they are close enough, it’s still not the same.

On the other hand, TV-14 is said to be Intended for children ages 14 and older in the company of an adult. Possibly contains intensely suggestive dialogue, strong coarse language, intense sexual situations, or intense violence. So really, the scene, which shows Kathryn Hahn’s butt, can hardly be the end of it all. Guess it is basically for the audience to decide on.

The first two episodes of Agatha All Along are out on Disney+, with the rest dropping weekly till October 30, when the last two episodes will air.

The Penguin episode 1 is on HBO Max and will maintain a weekly release schedule from September 29 till November 10.
