SUMMARY

  • Kanan Jarrus is one of the great additions of the Star Wars universe crafted by Dave Filoni.
  • The director has proven himself time and time again as the true heir to the empire that is Star Wars.
  • The director's little corner of the universe has been able to deliver some of the IP's most well received moments.

Star Wars Rebels had a host of great characters that were some of the best additions to the Star Wars canon. Contributed by Dave Filoni, these characters had some of the most defining moments in the history of Star Wars, that sort of prove that Dave Filoni might be the true heir to the Star Wars empire.

One scene in particular proves that Filoni has what it takes to put the Opera in Space Opera when it comes to Star Wars. The director/writer has crafted some of the most well-received moments in the franchise, while also contributing the most heart-wrenching of story beats in the Star Wars universe.

Dave Filoni cemented himself as the GOAT when he killed Kanan Jarrus

Kanan Jarrus was a brand new addition to the ranks of the Jedi who had escaped the dreaded Order 66. Taking on a Padawan of his own in Ezra Bridger and igniting a romance with the Twi-Lek resistance pilot Hera Syndulla, the character would go blind in the series, using the Force instead to navigate the world around him.

However, Dave Filoni decided to take the character and use him to deliver a gut punch of a moment. Trying to protect his Padawan and Hera, Kanan places himself between a wall of fire and his loved ones. When it becomes clear that he is not going the survive it, the dread moment becomes even more tragic when Kanan, perhaps through the will of the force, has his eyesight restored, so that he may see the people he loves one last time. He then pushes his team away, perishing in the fire.

Dave Filoni is the man who needs to run Star Wars

Dave Filoni has routinely been able to deliver some of the greatest tragic, triumphant, and heart-felt moments with his corner of the universe, using animated and live-action mediums to elevate the stories set in a galaxy far, far away. The way he humanized the clones, added more flavor to Anakin’s stories, and gave audiences characters like Captain Rex, Ahsoka Tano, and The Bad Batch, shows that Filoni could bring novel concepts into the Star Wars Universe, without having to sway away from what makes the core of the franchise.

Ezra Bridger, Ahsoka, Hera, and the rest are getting their time to shine in a live-action setting, and it seems the Ghost crew will return on the Mandalorian and Grogu film that is being helmed by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni. Given how the film is received, fans can expect to see a change in the Star Wars IP, such that the franchise would picot to get its core fanbase back.
