When and Where Will A24’s Backrooms Release on Streaming?

The film draws heavily from Kane Parsons’ successful YouTube series, which transformed the simple internet legend into a sprawling mythology with multiple scary monsters that garnered over a million views online. Parsons’ original videos became famous for their found-footage style, realistic visual effects, and overwhelming sense of isolation. The filmmaker, who has become A24’s youngest director, has reportedly carried the same style into the movie with a more well-rounded narrative grounding the plot.

According to the official synopsis, the movie follows a therapist, Dr. Mary Kline, who enters a mysterious dimension after one of her patients disappears into it. There, she must navigate a seemingly endless maze of corridors and impossible spaces while searching for answers and trying to survive the mystery.

The movie plays big on the fear of being trapped in a place that defies logic.
