GTA 6

SUMMARY

  • Rockstar Games veteran Lazlow Jones was so dedicated towards GTA: San Andreas that he used voices from real life gang members.
  • Sadly, Lazlow Jones is not going to be a part of GTA 6 as he as joined Absurd Ventures with his fellow Rockstar Games colleague.
  • GTA Vice City was so realistic that you will feel familiar with the city, despite visiting it in real life for the first time.

There is no doubt that, right now, GTA 6 is the most anticipated game. Not only in the gaming fraternity but also in the whole world as well. However, Rockstar doesn’t seem to be too bothered about the fans’ concerns as it has been more than a year since the company provided a solid update.

It was December 4, 2023, when Rockstar announced the first trailer of the game, and since then it has been just theories and speculations, with no hint of trailer 2. Amidst this concern regarding the second trailer, we are forgetting that there is another major concern regarding the upcoming title.

However, this time it’s different. Lazlow Jones, a studio veteran who served as the host of numerous GTA radio stations and an audio director and writer on many of the studio’s games, provides the behind-the-scenes details about Rockstar. As reported by GamesRadar+, Jones discussed his time at Rockstar Games during an appearance on Kinda Funny Games.

In that interview, Lazlow stated that if they “needed specific accents or languages, we’d travel to those places.” This is a testament to the chief creator’s dedication towards writing dialogues in the game. And Lazlow exactly did that, he flew to other places.

Before the release of GTA San Andreas, Rockstar supposedly recruited real gang members to provide voiceovers for the NPCs in the game. This actually worked extremely well for the game as initial scripts were rejected by those gang members as they were like “We wouldn’t say that, we wouldn’t say that, we’d say this.”

And Lazlow eventually accepted those lines and put them in the game. However, we don’t know if GTA 6 will ever find this kind of realism because Lazlow Jones is not a part of Rockstar Games anymore as he has departed for new adventures with former Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser at new development studios, Absurd Ventures.

One surprising benefit of creating open-world games is that, as former Rockstar Games writer Lazlow Jones explains, you might already be familiar with a city you haven’t been to. The Grand Theft Auto and Red Dead Redemption veteran talks about a press trip to Miami to promote GTA 4 that was made easier not because Jones had been to the city before but because he was involved in the creation of GTA: Vice City in an interview with comedian, actor, and radio host Dan Soder on his podcast.

Me and this guy who worked at Rockstar are driving, and I go, ‘This is starting to feel really familiar. I go, ‘If we go around this corner, there’s a strip club.’ Went around the corner: strip club. I was like, ‘Yo! I know how to get around town.’

You might not find the accomplishment particularly noteworthy, but it has happened before. As we have previously seen, a professional football player claimed that because he was already familiar with the area playing Grand Theft Auto 5, it made his move to Los Angeles easier.

GTA 6 transports us back to Vice City, but Jones isn’t present to help mold it. Many aspects of the forthcoming open-world game are anticipated by many, but we can also add that if you ever find yourself in Miami, you might be able to navigate the city with ease.
