The Last of Us is one of the most successful and recognizable stories ever told in a video game. The developers of Naughty Dog took their time to create a unique story about love in the original game then spent the next few years working on an ambitious and worthy sequel that rivals the storytelling of the first game with harrowing consequences. Most video game franchises choose to end the story with a perfect trifecta, and that is what Respawn Entertainment is aiming to do with its original Star Wars trilogy.

The live-action counterparts have spanned across generations with a trilogy that is an overarching story of the Skywalker family. Perhaps Respawn Entertainment has other plans for the young Jedi, especially after the tragic ending of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.

The Star Wars Jedi Series Will Follow the Footsteps of the Films as a Trilogy

The gaming community was blown away by what Respawn Entertainment achieved with its original Star Wars series. Take everything great from other adaptations like the lightsaber battles and Force abilities and combine it with the influence of other popular franchises like the meditation points that serve as the bonfire from the Soulslike genre with an original and riveting story of a young Padawan who survived the Order 66 of Star Wars: Episode 3 – Revenge of the Sith, the gaming community was given everything and more than they wanted.

Recent events have given the fans reason to panic about the potential outcome of the third game since Disney hampered the plans of the developers to create another original Star Wars game this time centered around the Mandalorian culture; however, this cancelation paved the way for the third and final chapter of Cal Kestis’ story. Electronic Arts proudly announced that Respawn Entertainment is working on the final chapter to end the Jedi trilogy.

Respawn is working hard to bring the final chapter of this thrilling story to players.

Cal Kestis survived the purge only to discover that other threats were meant to extinguish the Jedi religion from the galaxy. The game developers were given free rein to create an original story and did not necessarily have to rely on other adaptations as a crutch; however, this series managed to squeeze in a few easter eggs and references for Star Wars fans to find. The Star Wars Jedi series is a massive triumph from a game developers’ perspective and is a worthy entry to the franchise.

Hopefully, the developers can land the bird successfully and offer a positive and satisfying ending for Cal and his crew even without the support and aid of the director and writer Stig Asmussen. Asmussen directed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and left the studio after shipping Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and he once mentioned he always envisioned the story of Cal Kestis as a trilogy.

Naughty Dog Could Take Some Notes From Respawn Entertainment for The Last of Us

Although nothing has been set in stone, director Neil Druckmann hinted at the possibility of another game while celebrating the fourth anniversary of The Last of Us Part 2 earlier this year. The sequel was all but guaranteed given the critical and commercial success of both The Last of Us games combined; however, the gaming community wonders if the next sequel would be the last.

Some fans would argue the first game ended perfectly and the sequel was unnecessary; however, the developers of Naughty Dog begged to differ. Druckmann saw the potential to deliver another heart-wrenching story and tackle the complexities of humanity and violence. Another game is another opportunity for more interesting challenges like introducing new variants of the Infected and expanding the lore.

Star Wars Jedi is the ultimate fantasy of a hardcore Star Wars fan. Hopefully, the studio can wrap up the story without loose ends, or Cal’s story while leaving a window of opportunity for more spinoffs and indirect sequels.

Respawn Entertainment and Naughty Dog are great game developers with strong creative vision. The gaming community is spoiled with great stories regardless of franchises and genres.
