Hamilton Police have charged a 54-year-old man after a stolen U-Haul truck crashed into a residence near Gage Park early on Tuesday.

Cops said that around 1:40 a.m., an officer saw a U-Haul truck in the area of Main St. E. and Glendale Ave. and did a licence plate query, which revealed the vehicle had been reported stolen from the Halton Region.

As other officers responded to the area, the occupant allegedly put the vehicle into motion, nearly striking an officer and colliding with three marked Hamilton Police cruisers before crashing into a nearby residence.

The vehicle came to rest after striking the building’s exterior fire escape staircase.

The driver, who has no fixed address, was safely taken into custody and charged.

He’s been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, dangerous operation, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and operation while prohibited

FIREARM DISCHARGE

Police have charged a 29-year-old Toronto man in connection with a firearm discharge investigation.

Cops said that on Saturday at around 3 p.m., they responded to a call for a shooting in the Morningside-Old Finch Aves. area.

It’s alleged the suspect became involved in an altercation with the victim, produced a firearm, discharged it and fled from the scene.

On Tuesday, Bernell Prince Galloway turned himself in at 42 Division and has been charged with discharging a firearm and possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm and two counts each of unauthorized possession of a firearm and uttering threats of death or bodily harm.
