Top 5 Co-op Games to Play If You Love Helldivers 2

1 week ago 8

Helldivers 2 has made dropping into a mission with three friends, blowing up anything that moves, and somehow making it back home an easy habit to pick up for a multiplayer co-op shooter. Thankfully, several games can scratch parts of that same itch without simply copying the formula that Arrowhead Game Studios has now perfected.

Some put more weight on classes and close combat, while others focus on movement, exploration, or building a squad that works together under pressure. Here are five multiplayer shooters, each with some quirks of their own, that are worth checking out when you want more of what Helldivers 2 has to offer.

5 Warhammer 40,000: Darktide

Fatshark’s Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is a natural pick for anyone who enjoys fighting huge enemy groups with a coordinated squad. Its four-player missions mix shooting and brutal melee combat, while distinct classes give everyone a different job in battle.

There is also a fun technical link between the two games. Both were built on Autodesk Stingray, originally created as Bitsquid, before Autodesk discontinued the engine in 2018. Arrowhead and Fatshark have since maintained heavily customized versions themselves, leaving both games as two unusual modern descendants of the same old software.

4 Mycopunk

Mycopunk is the relatively younger and much faster option here. Pigeons at Play built this four-player co-op shooter around fungal enemies, highly customizable weapons, and movement that lets you slide, jump, and zip around fights instead of standing still and trading bullets.

It entered Early Access in 2025 and is scheduled to leave it on October 20, 2026, when it will also launch on the PlayStation 5. Its early reception has been strong, although some players have pointed to repetitive missions and balance issues. That said, the game’s progression system is still its biggest draw, and it gives you plenty of room to mess around with different builds much like we do in Helldivers 2.

3 Jump Space

Jump Space takes the squad idea somewhere completely different. Up to four players crew a spaceship, then switch between piloting, repairing, exploring, space walking, and fighting enemies during the same mission. The whole crew has to keep the ship running while dealing with whatever goes wrong outside it.

The game is still in Early Access, so bugs and unfinished areas are to be expected, but its co-op gameplay has already earned plenty of praise from players. It works best when the whole group communicates.

2 Aliens: Fireteam Elite

Cold Iron Studios’ Aliens: Fireteam Elite gets much closer to the basic Helldivers 2 formula. You form a three-person fireteam, choose a class and weapons, then push through missions while Xenomorphs pour into corridors from practically every direction.

This 2021 shooter has a 69 Metacritic score and a much stronger user reception on Steam, where it remains Very Positive among English-language reviews. A sequel arrived on August 25, 2026, but it hasn’t received the same response, so the original is still the safer pick for anyone looking for a co-op Aliens game.

1 Deep Rock Galactic

If you want the closest overall match to Helldivers 2, look no further than Deep Rock Galactic. Four players, different classes, enemy swarms, procedurally generated (and destructible) environments, mission objectives, friendly fire, and plenty of opportunities for everything to go wrong are all part of the package.

The community has its own language, too. “Rock and Stone” and “For Karl!” are practically mandatory at this point, much like the constant cries of democracy and liberty in Helldivers 2. The game has also passed 10 million copies sold and continues to receive new content years after its Early Access launch in February 2018.

The five games we’ve discussed above cover quite a bit of ground, even though they all share the same basic appeal of getting a squad together and dealing with far too many enemies at once. Some come close to Arrowhead‘s combat design, while others capture the teamwork that makes a good co-op session so much fun.

Which of these games have you already played, and which one would you recommend to someone coming straight from HD2? Let us know in the comments below!
