The Shonen Jump magazine has produced many of the most powerful shonen anime characters over the years, including some that can destroy planets or manipulate reality itself. Thus, when you try to rank them in any order, especially based on their strength, it is bound to stir chaos among the fanbase. And honestly, that is the fun part of it.
The recently released poll (via Ranking.net) shows which characters left the biggest impression on Japanese audiences for their strength. The ranking we got also incorporates multiple factors, such as character feats, future potential, their role in the overall story, and how each character affects the viewer emotionally. Because of this, you will see a combination of serious characters as well as gag-type characters listed together.

| 10 | Uta | One Piece Film: Red | 6.7 / 10 | Amazon Prime Video |
10 Uta – The Musical Force of Destruction
At number ten, Uta is an unexpected pick. However, once you know about what she is capable of, it seems reasonable. Uta is a character from One Piece Film: Red. Her strength comes from her ability to control people with her voice. While this may sound harmless at first, there is much more to it than that – Uta can trap her victims within her dream-like reality while she controls all aspects of it.

What makes Uta unique is the distinct nature of her power. Most shonen protagonists rely on raw strength to succeed, while Uta uses her ability to manipulate someone’s mind, perception, and consciousness. Many argue that this makes her a more dangerous opponent than those with raw physical power.
9 Meruem – The King of Evolution
The character Meruem from the anime and manga series Hunter x Hunter serves as a perfect example of someone who becomes stronger simply by existing. As Chimera Ant King, Meruem’s growth rate was insane. Every single battle, meal, and experience makes him evolve further.

He does not simply fight; he calculates, adapts, and dominates all his opponents. His aura alone is enough to destroy the majority of his opponents.
What truly makes him terrifying is his potential. If given more time, Meruem would have been able to surpass nearly all of the characters listed here. That idea alone is enough to justify his position.
8 Vegeta – The Eternal Rival
Vegeta’s pride as the Prince of Saiyans is proof that pride can be a source of power as well. Since day one, Vegeta has constantly sought to surpass Goku at all costs, which, over time, forced him to attain results that would have been completely unattainable without that drive.

While he does not always succeed, he never stops evolving. And in a universe where power keeps scaling upward, that determination is what keeps him relevant.
7 Monkey D. Luffy – The Sun God Awakens
In Shonen Jump’s world, Luffy has flipped the idea of strength upside-down. In One Piece, Gear 5 has given him powers that go beyond the rules of combat and enter the realm of cartoon-like reality manipulation. He can now transform the battlefield into rubber and bounce back attacks, while, at the same time, fight with complete freedom.

When you think about Luffy‘s power, it is not just about winning battles – it is about breaking the rules of the world itself. Thus, it is easy to see why Luffy is ranked so high in this list.
6 Norimaki Arale – The Gag Character God
Arale Norimaki belongs in an entirely different class of power than any of these anime characters. Rather than just breaking limits, she ignores them entirely! As she is a gag character, logic does not apply to her. And that makes her nearly impossible to beat.

5 Kars – The Ultimate Lifeform
Kars is the ultimate form of evolution! As the Ultimate Lifeform, he gains the abilities of every living organism on Earth, which include regeneration, the ability to adapt, and the ability to be almost immortal.

His intelligence matches his physical abilities, making him a complete package. And honestly, that also makes him an incredibly dangerous character to deal with.
4 Zen-oh – The Omni-King of Everything
Zen-oh has the most pure power imaginable. He does not fight or struggle – he simply erases. With one thought, he can wipe an entire universe out of existence.

3 Vegito – The Perfect Fusion Warrior
Vegito is what happens when two of the strongest beings in the universe – Goku & Vegeta – combine into one. Vegito combines Goku’s creativity with Vegeta’s aggression, creating a nearly unstoppable force.

2 Gojo Satoru – The Untouchable Sorcerer
In Jujutsu Kaisen, Gojo Satoru is often described as unbeatable and for a very good reason. His ability, Infinity, makes any form of attack during battle, including from behind and from above, take an infinite amount of time before it could reach him.

His Domain Expansion overwhelms opponents with an endless stream of information, effectively shutting down their minds. It is not just power – it is control at the highest level. Gojo basically redefines what it means to be strong in modern Shonen.
1 Son Goku – The Face of Limitless Power
With Dragon Ball‘s Son Goku dominating number one, it is fair to say that anyone would have expected it. He has been setting the standards for strength within anime for decades. From Super Saiyan to Ultra Instinct, Goku constantly evolves beyond his limits. He fights gods and breaks dimensions while still continuing to advance his abilities.

Based on many rankings, Goku is repeatedly ranked as one of the strongest Shonen Jump characters due to his high power level and battle feats. What makes Goku special is not just his strength, but rather his mindset. He always wants to improve on his previous accomplishments, fight more powerful opponents, and expand his skill set. That motivation is the reason Goku remains number one.
Shonen Jump’s representation of power is a lot more complex. In addition, fan polls from Japan often offer very interesting insights into how anime’s primary audience thinks.
While Western discussion generally uses strict power-scaling logic, Japanese fans typically combine emotional impact and raw power to determine rankings. This is why many times these rankings may seem unpredictable to many of us. And honestly, that is what makes participating in these discussions so enjoyable: there are no right answers, only endless debates.
Who is the strongest Shonen Jump character of all time?
Most fans consider Goku or Zen-oh, but gag characters like Arale can surpass both due to their limitless nature.
Why is Gojo ranked so high?
Because his Infinity ability makes him practically untouchable in combat.
Is Luffy stronger than Vegeta now?
With Gear 5, Luffy has reality-bending abilities, but Vegeta still has raw destructive power.
Why are gag characters like Arale so powerful?
They operate outside logic, making their strength essentially limitless.
Could Zen-oh defeat everyone on this list?
Yes, in terms of raw power, Zen-oh can erase entire universes instantly.
So now the big question: if all these characters went head-to-head with no restrictions, who do YOU think would come out on top – and why? Share your thoughts in the comments section below, and we would love to hear them out.
