However, with the recent huge success of Marvel Games, fans are left wondering if one of these games fill all the criteria they are looking for. While Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy made waves with its single-player narrative-driven approach, it is Marvel’s Avengers that provides a better blueprint for crafting a One Piece game.

Despite its mixed reception at launch, Marvel’s Avengers has one of the most crucial elements needed for a One Piece game: character interactions. While the game had its flaws, such as repetitive gameplay and technical issues, its portrayal of character relationships and dialogues was what made the game fun for the fans of the movies and comics.

This blueprint for strong character interaction is needed for a One Piece game because the charm and appeal of the anime series lie deeply in the unique personalities and interactions among the Straw Hat crew.

At its core, the anime is all about the character relationships among the Straw Hat Pirates, motivating each other in difficult times or standing up for one another. Each character brings their own quirks, backstories, and motivations to the narrative, creating a variety of interactions that move the plot forward.

So the game should also be able to mirror all these meaningful and critical character interactions, just like Marvel’s Avengers did. Even though in the Avengers game, players mostly played Kamala Khan (main character), her interaction with other characters gave depth to the narrative.

It is known that the execution of the game wasn’t perfect, but the intention to dive deep into character dynamics was great and this is what’s required for the Straw Hat Adventures. The interaction between Luffy, Zoro, Nami, and the rest of the crew should be the main focus, shaping the narrative in a way that honors the source material.

It is worth noting that while Marvel’s Avengers provides a very solid foundation for character interactions, that’s just one aspect of the game. To create a perfect game, developers would need to address the major issues present in the blueprint, such as the almost non-existent opportunity to play as other characters (Avengers).

This was the major mistake. Even though the game was named after a team, players mostly controlled Kamala Khan, and when they were given the opportunity to play as other characters, the time given was short, which annoyed the players. To rectify this issue, the first step would be to allow players to control multiple characters in the crew and not just Luffy.

This change will not only allow the game to create a more vibrant and varied interaction between characters but also capture the series’ unique charm. From the quirky nature of Franky to the serious nature of Zoro, a well-designed game would need to capture this aspect effectively.

In the end, the quest to create a perfect One Piece game that truly does justice to Eiichiro Oda’s masterpiece led us to Marvel’s Avengers, which offers a promising blueprint due to its character interactions.
