Dorohedoro is an anime and manga series created by Q Hayashida. The story is set in a violent, industrial universe divided into two dimensions: Hole, a decaying and heavily polluted city populated entirely by humans, and Magic User World, a prosperous society where sorcerers reside.

In this world, the characters who survive the longest are those who demonstrate scientific innovation, tactical planning, or organizational leadership. Let’s rank the characters of Dorohedoro based on their direct actions within the story.

6 Shou the Invisible

Sho is a magic user and one of the founding members of the En Family, the ruling syndicate of the Magic User World. He possesses magic that allows him to make objects and people invisible, while also maintaining the ability to erase memories. He works in the shadows, taking care of threats and controlling situations without ever engaging in direct physical combat. As the En Family’s original assassin, he utilizes his invisibility and memory erasure magic to control the battlefield from the shadows.

Sho ranks at the sixth position because his intelligence is highly specialized for espionage and information control; he knows what he can do best, and does it better than anyone else. He weaponizes his own lack of presence. Because his magic has a passive effect that makes people forget he exists, he uses this to spy on enemies and gather critical intelligence without ever being detected.

5 Kawajiri’s Non-Traditional Intelligence

Kawajiri is unique within the Dorohedoro universe itself. He is the adoptive older brother of Nikaido and a magic user who successfully became a devil at just the age of sixteen. Devils are the supreme beings of this universe, possessing immense power and immortality. However, he was later stripped of his devil status and demoted back to a normal magic user.

Kawajiri ranks fifth due to his comprehensive knowledge of arcane mechanics and the strict rules governing the devil society. When he discovered Nikaido’s extremely rare time-travel magic, he knew immediately that devils would harass her for a partnership. He successfully hid her existence from Chidaruma for years. This is a massive intellectual feat considering how strong Chidaruma is.

4 Dr. Vaux is the Creative Innovator

Dr. Vaux is a human who serves as the director of the Magic Victim Ward. He is a former student of Professor Kasukabe (more on him later). The human population in Hole is constantly subjected to magical experiments by visiting sorcerers. Dr. Vaux is responsible for treating the survivors, who often suffer from severe biological mutations.

Dr. Vaux ranks fourth because he can counter supernatural trauma, even if he does not possess any magical healing abilities. He relies strictly on standard medical knowledge and innovation. Magic alters human biology in ways that completely defy scientific logic. Victims arrive at his hospital transformed into insects or unstable biological chimeras. Dr. Vaux still somehow keeps his patients alive.

3 En – The Master Monopolist

En is the absolute ruler of the Magic User World and the head of the En Family. He possesses a highly destructive magic that allows him to produce massive amounts of smoke, transforming anything it touches into mushrooms. However, his true strength lies in his exceptional strategies and corporate leadership. En started his life as an orphan sold into a slave factory, but he survived, escaped, and built a massive corporate empire.

En ranks third due to his mastery of corporate strategy and resource management. He single-handedly controls the economy of the Magic User World. He owns restaurants, real estate, and completely monopolizes products related to his mushrooms. En transitioned a lawless, chaotic society into a functional hierarchy with himself at the absolute apex.

2 Kai is the Master of Strategic Subversion

Kai is the founder and boss of the Cross-Eyes. An organization with the primary goal of overthrowing the ruling elite class of magic users. Kai was formed when Ai Coleman fell into the toxic Lake of Refuse in Hole. The accumulated resentment of dead humans entered his body, creating the violent and calculating personality known as Kai.

Kai lacks strong natural magic, so he relies entirely on medical knowledge and chemistry to overpower his enemies. Kai invented a highly complex surgical procedure that allows him to extract the devil tumor, the physical source of magic, from the brain of a deceased sorcerer. He then implants these tumors directly into his own head. This allows him to steal and use multiple types of magic. He is the perfect example of creating his own power instead of being born with it.

1 Professor Kasukabe is the Pioneer of Science

Professor Kasukabe is a human scientist residing in Hole. He is sixty-four years old but has the physical appearance of a young teenager due to an experimental magic incident in his past. Kasukabe has dedicated his entire life to studying the anatomy of magic users.

Professor Kasukabe holds the number one rank because he achieved things considered scientifically impossible in the Dorohedoro universe. As a normal human with absolutely no magic, he must rely entirely on logic, engineering, and empirical research to understand the supernatural. His greatest feat of intelligence is the construction of a fully functional Magic Door, and the way he invented it also show how brutal the world of this anime is.

Dorohedoro is full of many characters that are smart in one way or another, but if we go by just the feats, these 6 stand at the top. It is about surviving in a gloomy world. Furthermore, just because some of our favorite characters like Kaiman and Nikaidou are not present in this ranking doesn’t mean they have nothing going on for them – they, too, have their own talents.

Kaiman relies strictly on his combat proficiency. He utilizes physical intimidation and immediate violence to extract information from targets. Nikaidou complements this approach with martial arts. While her application of time-travel magic is powerful, her immediate problem-solving is not like the others in the ranking.
