The Pitt Season 2 Episode 15 Recap: “9:00 P.M.”

So, it all comes to a head with HBO Max‘s The Pitt season 2, episode 15, “9:00 P.M.,” with some hidden truths and tensions between Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch (Noah Wyle) and Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi (Sepideh Moafi). At the end of the last episode, Baran and Robby review a chart of a forty-year-old woman with a history of seizures caused by a childhood diagnosis of viral meningitis.

When we last left off, Robby asked if the chart was hers. In the season finale, Dr. Al-Hashimi confirms it, as she anxiously explains how she has managed her symptoms, including finding medical reasons to clear herself for driving—something people with active seizures are not allowed to do. It is an electric scene in The Pitt Season 2, Episode 15, “9:00 P.M.”, one of the best the series has ever done.

HBO Max’s The Pitt Season 2 Episode 15: What Are Dr. Al-Hashimi’s Options for Treating Her Worsening Seizure Disorder?

New anti-seizure medications, surgery on her temporal lobe that could impair her speech, or a neuromodulation device that could help control the condition. Baran is shaken, placing her professional life in his hands. Robby tells her she needs to disclose the condition. She says she plans to and that she has a plan.

Then Dana (Daredevil: Born Again’s Katherin LaNasa)calls for Robby to head to pediatrics, interrupting their serious conversation. Dana and Robby’s exchange is brief, a false alarm involving an infant patient. When Robby returns to the medical bay, Dr. Abbott (Shawn Hatosy) confronts his friend about his mental health. Robby, of course, tells him off, then an ambulance drives up.

The ambulance brings in a woman with preeclampsia, but she insists on a natural birth without medical intervention. Robby, rather bluntly, asks why she’s here. She replies that she needs relief from the headaches. Abbott reviews her options, then turns back to Robby, who has already left the room. Later, his biker friend tells Robby he’ll get his medical checkups if he comes back. Robby makes no promises.

Unfortunately, the patient has a seizure, putting both her life and her unborn child’s life in jeopardy. The staff also discovered that an older man, who had been in the waiting room since five that morning, had passed away. Two doctors argue over whether he should be considered a patient on the morning shift. The Pitt, like Homicide: Life on the Street, depicts doctors speaking the way physicians really talk when patients aren’t around.

HBO Max’s The Pitt Season 2 Episode 15: Does the Baby Survive?

The patient goes into cardiac arrest, leaving the staff just four minutes to save both the baby and the mother. Abbott and Robby perform an emergency cesarean section to save the baby, who is delivered blue. They begin infant CPR with gentle compressions and assisted ventilation using a bag-valve mask as the baby shows signs of tachycardia. In addition, Robby and the team work on the mother.

Dana berates two detectives for taking the two rape kits that have been sitting at the hospital for weeks. They save the baby, and the mother is stable. Robby is emotional, Abbot notices, and looks concerned for him. Both are transferred upstairs. Meanwhile, Langdon (Patrick Ball) and King (Breaking Bad’s Taylor Dearden) leave, bonding over the tough shift.

Langdon checks in on a patient, Cohn, who has a skin infection involving the neck fascia. She has recovered, but she lost her leg. Meanwhile, it appears Frank is doing anything he can to avoid going home, a common behavior among addicts. Robby gives Whitaker his keys and phone number, but is picked up by the farm girl/patient with whom he is playing house with. Robby watches them leave.

In the ambulance bay, Robby runs into Dr. Mohan (Supriya Ganesh), and they come to an understanding that life doesn’t always work out as planned, including Mohan’s next medical placement. Robby walks away, leaving Mohan visibly distraught. Finally, Robby tells Baran she needs to inform the administration or he will, giving her until Monday. Their argument is heated and public.

Abbott lost his wife and leg, but never killed himself. He tells Robby he never killed himself because life is beautiful, hilarious, and they are here to save people. Robby tells Abbott that nothing he will ever do will be more important than what he has done in this hospital, but the job is killing him. He says part of you doesn’t die when you lose someone you love; it’s when you see a fellow human pass.

Abbot tells him he needs to dance through the darkness, get some help, and go on a cruise, not drive a motorcycle without a helmet. Abbot is still his emergency contact and does not want to be contacted. Robby then sees Baran leaving. She gets in her car, begins to drive away, but stops to cry. The staff, including Dana, sit outside to watch the fireworks. Robby stops Langdon before he leaves.

The Pitt Season 2, Episode 15 ends with Frank telling his mentor that he needs help, in an abrasive, sick-of-his-bullsh*t kind of way. Frank leaves, no longer caring about Robby’s approval. Finally, Robby swaddles the abandoned infant, telling her that he was abandoned too when he was eight years old. He tells the child everything will be okay, and the episode fades to black.
