While fans have been trying to figure out why Supriya Ganesh has been dropped from the upcoming Season 3 of The Pitt, Noah Wyle recently revealed that it is because of creative decisions that the actress will not be returning.
During his talk with Variety at PaleyFest, he stated:
It’s an inevitability that’s going to happen every season with this show because as writers we’re hard pressed to figure out what a lapse of time we can have and keep most of the ensemble together realistically. Emergency rooms have a high revolving door. As always, we try to bring in new characters or promote from within as we go through these cast changes and try to keep the storylines fresh…
The Emmy-winning star also added that the cast will miss Ganesh and her fan-favorite character.
…But obviously Supriya has been a huge part of our show since the beginning. Dr. Mohan is a beloved character, and I love playing with her and working with Supriya, and we wish her all the best in her next endeavors, and we’re going to miss her.
Showrunner R. Scott Gemmill, while on the red carpet at PaleyFest, stated that Ganesh’s exit aligns with the nature of the show, for the sake of storytelling.
It’s sort of the nature of the show. Unfortunately, the way the medical profession works, you come in, you learn, you move on, and we want to try and be as truthful to that process as possible. So we’re going to turn over our cast. But I think it’s a great launching pad for people and that’s the best we can do.
While fans are revolting against the decision, the actress herself has not said a word about not being part of the show anymore.
Supriya Ganesh’s The Pitt Exit Explained
Supriya Ganesh in the show | Credits: HBO MaxVariety was the first to announce that Supriya Ganesh will be leaving The Pitt following Season 2 on April 2, 2026. While Noah Wyle or showrunner R. Scott Gemmill has remarked that it was due to creative reasons, the actress herself has not said a word, including not even taking the time to thank the show’s cast and crew for the opportunity.
Moreover, she ditched PaleyFest despite being scheduled to attend, announcing on her Instagram stories that she would not attend (via X). These events have raised questions about her exit, including whether she was kicked off the show or if it was purely a narrative decision.
Some fans reckon that her exit might be because of how outspoken she has been, specifically about how her character has often been confused with Victoria Javadi or her pro-Palestinian stance.
Tracy Ifeachor, who played Dr. Heather Collins in the first season, had faced a similar situation when her character was written off due to narrative reasons. Yet, some fans continue to believe that it might be because of her strong pro-Palestinian stance.
Furthermore, there have been rumors of alleged mistreatment of the star, including her co-star Shabana Azeez. The duo also seems to have faced mistreatment during the press tour of the second season, which Ganesh called painful during an interview with The Wrap. Rumors claim that these details may have led to Supriya Ganesh’s exit from the show.
Yet, none of this is confirmed and is only speculation. For now, the only plausible reason remains storytelling needs. In the second season, Dr. Mohan spent much time trying to figure out what she would do next once her residency ended. The show might use this as a way to write her character out while giving the spotlight to new characters.
