The Furious Continues Perfect Rotten Tomatoes Score Ahead of Release

The Furious is set to hit theaters with a stellar 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes (as of June 9, 2026), making it one of the few recent action movies to earn such strong critical acclaim. The martial arts film is directed by Kenji Tanigaki and distributed by Lionsgate. It will be released in limited theaters on Friday, June 12, 2026, following its world premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, 2025.

Critics have gone so far as to compare it to the gold standard of action cinema, calling it the best martial arts film in years. Some say its action is on par with The Raid films. The movie is rated R for strong bloody violence and language and has a running time of 1 hour and 53 minutes.

At its core, The Furious is a story of despair and revenge. The film follows Wang Wei, a humble tradesman whose daughter is abducted by a mafia ring. When the overwhelmed police prove ineffective, Wei takes the law into his own hands. His search begins in frustration and dead ends until he crosses paths with Navin, a determined journalist whose wife has vanished without a trace. United by loss and a hunger for vengeance, the two form a brutal alliance, fighting their way through the sectioned-off complex where the kidnapping took place.

The cast is another major reason the film has generated such strong buzz ahead of its release. The Furious stars Xie Miao, Joe Taslim, Jeeja Yanin, Yayan Ruhian, Brian Le, Joey Iwanaga, and Yang Enyou. Ruhian’s involvement, in particular, strengthens the comparisons to The Raid, as he remains one of the franchise’s most recognizable faces.

The screenplay was written by Mak Tin-shu, Lei Zhilong, Shum Kwan-sin, and Frank Hui, while William Kong, Shan Tam, and Frank Hui serve as producers.
