In the new season, Anne’s journey to find herself didn’t go the way she wanted. She struggles to get over her grief and realizes by the end that she was pretending to be happy when she was not. She lies to her one-night stand about living in Italy and finding a new boyfriend named Gianpiero. In a fun twist, her manifestation comes true when she meets Tennant’s character with the same name, while house-sitting for Claude and Danny.
David Tennant Might Be Crucial in Anne’s Journey Forward
The cliffhanger ending of The Four Seasons Season 2 introduced a new character into the mix. David Tennant’s Gianpiero and Kerri Kenney-Silver’s Anne instantly hit it off when they met in the season finale. Anne’s decision to stay in Italy is part of her plan to start over, and she dubs it ‘Anne Classic’. It appears that Tennant’s character is likely to become a major part of this Anne Classic phase.
Throughout the second season, Anne tries to move on from her grief of losing Nick. Her attempts at normalcy include going overboard in helping Ginny with the baby and having a one-night stand with Mark Brett. However, it still doesn’t help her. Anne has clearly been through a lot over the two seasons of the show, and many fans want something good to happen to her eventually. Gianpiero appears to be exactly that.
Anne needs to be treated right, which was not the case with her marriage to Nick. Steve Carell‘s brief appearance in Season 2 confirms that she knew about Nick cheating on her before Ginny and her divorce. Anne also needs someone who can match her energy. While Mark was a thrilling experience for her, he wasn’t the right person for her personal renaissance journey. However, Tennant’s Gianpiero seems to match her vibe, and we have a lot of hope for his character.
The Four Seasons Creators Explain Plan for David Tennant
A still from The Four Seasons Season 2 | Credits: NetflixThe co-creators of The Four Seasons, Lang Fisher & Tracey Wigfield, are excited about David Tennant’s entry into the show. They have plans for his character beyond the cameo in the Season 2 finale. During a chat with TODAY, Wigfield shared that she would love to see Kerri Kenney-Silver’s character having “a real love story that doesn’t go wrong right away” with the “romantic cliffhanger” in the second season.
During another chat with Decider, the creators revealed how Tennant got cast in the role. When they discussed potential actors for the role, it was Tina Fey who threw out his name. Wigfield shared, “And Tina, the first person she said was, ‘Well, someone like David Tennant, like a David Tennant kind of guy, as her neighbor.'”
While they expected Tennant to turn down the cameo due to his busy schedule, he was just as excited to be part of this show. The creators shared that they plan to bring back Tennant in Season 3, adding that they were excited about the two actors’ chemistry for a potential next season. Wigfield shared:
They’re both like long little stringbean people and they look so good together and had such nice chemistry that it made me really excited about, you know, a possible Season 3.
Meanwhile, Fisher added that she is certain about adding Tennant to the cast in future episodes. For now, both the creators and we, fans, await Netflix’s announcement about a third season. Alan French of FandomWire gave the show a 7 in our review of The Four Seasons Season 2.
