By the end of the season, the group is in Claude’s home country of Italy, where Danny eventually moved to be near Claude’s family. It is in Italy that these friends find some resolution to their season-long issues. Alan French of FandomWire gave the show a 7 in our review of The Four Seasons Season 2. Anne makes a crucial decision while in Italy, which will probably set up a major Season 3 storyline. Here is what happened in the eighth episode of Season 2.
Anne’s Final Decision and How the Cameo Sets Up Her Arc
Anne’s journey to find herself, calling it Anne 2.0, didn’t go the way she wanted in this second season of The Four Seasons. She struggles to get over her grief, which also gave us the rare Steve Carell appearance in one of the episodes in a flashback, where she finds out about Nick cheating on her. However, she and Ginny bond over the latter’s baby, with both Kerri Kenney-Silver and Erika Henningsen delivering exceptional chemistry in this friendship.
Anne 2.0’s attempts at normalcy include offering Ginny and her baby a place to stay, going overboard in helping Ginny with the baby, and having a one-night stand with Mark Brett. However, Anne soon realizes that she was pretending to be happy when she was not. It leads to a beautiful conversation with Ginny, where she tells her to move out as she and her baby need their own space, while Ginny tells her that she was a wonderful person to her.
When Mark tells Anne that he has found a new girlfriend, she lies to him about living in Italy and finding a new boyfriend named Gianpiero. She goes on to do exactly that as she makes the decision to stay in Italy and calls this version of herself ‘Anne Classic.’ She agrees to house-sit for Danny and Claude while they are away in America. In a fun twist, her manifestation comes true when she meets Gianpiero, played by none other than David Tennant, who is a neighbor of Claude and Danny. It probably sets up a Season 3 arc with Tennant joining the group.
What Kate’s Powerful Monologue Means for Her Marriage
Tina Fey and Will Forte as Kate and Jack in The Four Seasons | Credits: NetflixTina Fey and Will Forte‘s characters run into more marital troubles this season, especially after both of their individual plans blow up in their faces. Kate’s B&B plan with Danny doesn’t take off after the latter’s decision to move to Italy. With his mounting insecurity, Jack further falls off the wagon when he sprains his ankle and ruins his plans to run a marathon. This causes a major tension in their marriage.
On their trip to Italy, Kate encourages Jack to run a marathon impromptu. While he struggles to complete the marathon, Kate joins him. While they jog together, they bring out their issues and work on their communication for the first time in the season. Kate shares all her insecurities, expressing how she finds no purpose in her life.
This monologue seems to not only cross them over the finish line in the marathon, but also leave them in a happy place at the end of the season. When they leave Italy at the end of the series, Jack and Kate still remain a very loving couple.
Will Claude and Danny Return to Italy?
Marco Calvani and Colman Domingo as Claude and Danny in The Four Seasons | Credits: NetflixThings were hard for Danny and Claude this season, especially with all the discussions about having kids. When Danny wants kids, Claude doesn’t, and the situation switches up later in the show. Their final decision for the time being was that they were not ready to have kids.
During Thanksgiving, Danny makes the decision to move to Italy with Claude, respecting the latter’s sacrifice of living 16 years in America. While Danny and Claude make the move, Danny has to return to America when his mother has a fall. Danny tries to convince her to move to Italy with him, but she refuses to leave her home. Claude overhears this conversation and decides to stay in America, while Danny takes care of his home.
Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani are just exceptional performers, easily portraying the tribulations faced by this couple. Danny and Claude’s situation will be further explored in the upcoming third season of the show.
