The emotional letter Nicole Kidman received from her children Bella and Connor could change a broken relationship over Tom Cruise

Nicole Kidman has a mixed relationship with her children. She's been an excellent mother to Sunday Rose Urban and Faith Urban but doesn't really have a relationship with Bella and Connor Cruise, so why are they rarely spotted together and what happened?

The Academy Award winning actress, regarded as one of the biggest female names in Hollywood, hasn't been seen publicly with her two eldest children since 2007 and the 57-year-old tends to refuse to talk about them. It seems Tom Cruise is the reason why.

Kidman previously hinted that they are closer to their father than her, and might even be members of the Scientology church that the 'Mission: Impossible' actor has notoriously adopted for decades.

Cruise's relationship with Scientology, widely regarded as a cult and debunked, has been a very controversial topic in his marriages and relationships and even led to his own daughter, Suri, becoming estranged as she was raised by Katie Holmes instead.

But for Kidman, who starred in 'Moulin Rouge!', 'The Others' and 'The Golden Compass', there might be a path to reconciliation with Connor and Bella following the death of their grandmother at the age of 84.

She learned of the news when she landed in Italy for the Venice International Film Festival and announced it to the world in a heartbreaking address after claiming Best Actress for Babygirl, calling her mother "beautiful", "brave" and describing her as the woman who made her.

Kidman's kids reach out

The tragedy has appeared to open the door to potentially recovering her relationship with her children after the pair penned a heartfelt letter to their mother, offering their love and thoughts to her with the loss of their grandma.

For Kidman, this was welcome news and she has been left hoping that she could have them back in her life according to Woman's Day and is even willing to take an acting sabbatical to fix things with them.

"The most heartwarming thing has been for Nicole to get a joint message from Bella and Connor," a source said to Woman's Day. "Who she's not heard from in a very long time.

"It's kind of sad it took such a tragic moment to bring them back into her life, but she knows it would make her mum so happy if her passing brought her estranged grandkids back into the family."
