When Is The Batman 2 Releasing?

The Batman – Part II is scheduled to release on October 1, 2027, and is currently in its pre-production phase (via IMDb). The movie was originally scheduled to be released in 2025, but it was delayed because of an incomplete script, according to James Gunn (via the Smartless podcast).

The sequel’s release date was rescheduled to 2027, putting a five-year gap between the first movie and the sequel. Of course, Christopher Nolan‘s Batman movie series had a 3 to 4-year gap between them, so it is not really unusual. This only suggests that Reeves is taking his time in creating another masterpiece.

As the script was made back in 2025, Reeves and the production team are currently spending a year in pre-production, hopefully giving the upcoming production phase the edge it deserves. The delay only suggests a film that is created carefully rather than being rushed to release.

Who Are The Returning & New Cast Members in The Batman 2?

Pattinson’s Batman and Bruce Wayne may have caused a rift in the fandom back in the day, but that didn’t stop him from reprising his role in the upcoming movie. Alongside him, some of the recurring stars, including Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, are expected to be a part of the film. However, the big difference in the recurring cast comes with Zoë Kravitz, who is not expected to return (via Variety).

According to a report by Variety, there are two new additions to the cast who have massive backgrounds in the MCU: Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan. Stan is reportedly playing Harvey Dent, aka Two-Face, while Johansson is expected to get the role of his wife, Gilda Dent, a fantasy that Marvel fans want from the sequel. Additionally, Charles Dance is also expected to be a part of the cast.

Meanwhile, Barry Keoghan is reportedly set to return as the Joker. The actor hasn’t denied being a part of it and has insinuated his involvement in various interviews without confirming or denying anything. However, fans have mixed feelings about his return after his role in the 2022 movie.

What Is the Plot of The Batman 2?

There is no official information on the plot of the movie as it has been kept under wraps. However, if reports are to be believed and Johansson and Stan have been cast as the Dents, then the story might revolve around them.

The sequel may be the origin story of Two-Face. That said, nothing has been confirmed as of writing. However, Reeves talked a little bit about the upcoming villain during a red carpet interview with Happy Sad Confused. As expected, he did not reveal much, other than mentioning that the villain would be someone who has “never really been done in a movie before”.

Keep in mind that Two-Face had already appeared in Nolan’s Dark Knight, so there’s a chance that he might not be the only or the primary villain in the upcoming movie.

Is There a ‘The Batman 2‘ Trailer?

There’s no teaser video or trailer that has been released other than Reeves teasing the Batmobile tires on X. However, the director’s tease points to another villain who may have a chance to appear, Mr. Freeze.

Those who know Mr. Freeze should already be able to connect the dots between “SnowTires” and the villain. Reeves’ photo tease in the snowstorm leads some to speculate that Mr.Freeze might be a part of the sequel. Alternatively, it might just be the weather and a little bit of wordplay on Reeves’ part to play with fans’ minds.

The Batman‘s trailer was released seven months after going into production, so if Reeves starts the sequel’s production in mid-2026, fans might have to wait until early 2027 for a trailer, if he follows the same timeline. Fans should not expect to see a new trailer for the upcoming sequel, as production has not yet begun as of writing. This will only create more curiosity and interest around the plot and characters.

Every piece of information that is revealed to the public about the sequel only points to one thing: Reeves is going big and fresh. With two Marvel members reportedly joining the cast, Catwoman disappearing, and a five-year gap, it only proves the trust in the director and his promise to deliver something different. It remains to be seen if these expectations are met in October of 2027.
