Superman Meets General Zod in David Corenswet’s New Movie Releasing This December

David Corenswet is trading his Superman suit for an NFL jersey. His new movie, Mr. Irrelevant, arrives in theaters this Christmas. On September 13, Paramount Pictures released the first official trailer for Mr. Irrelevant. The biographical drama stars Corenswet as late NFL star John Tuggle. There is a very exciting collaboration in this movie, which has fans looking forward to the premiere. Michael Shannon co-stars as Bill Parcells alongside Corenswet. The two share a DC connection, although not in the same timeline.

David Corenswet made his screen debut as the Man of Steel in James Gunn’s Superman in 2025. Meanwhile, Shannon played General Zod in Man of Steel (2013), a film from Henry Cavill’s Superman era.

What Is David Corenswet’s Mr. Irrelevant About?

Mr. Irrelevant is a biographical drama about John Tuggle. Despite being the final pick, he was selected by the New York Giants in the 1983 NFL Draft. The movie follows how his determination led to his achievement as the 1983 New York Giants Special Teams Player of the Year, starting from barely making the roster. Mr. Irrelevant will explore his relationship with his teammates and the impact he left.

Tuggle’s promising NFL career was cut short after he succumbed to cancer in 1986. He was just 25 at that time. Corenswet’s movie will preserve his legacy, hope, and relationships left behind.

The movie also features Isabel May as Katie, Tuggle’s love interest, and David Krumholtz as Julius “Whitey” Horai. Jonathan Levine, best known for 50/50 (2011), is helming the movie, while Nick Santora has written the screenplay.

After Mr. Irrelevant, David Corenswet will return as Superman. James Gunn’s Superman: Man of Tomorrow, which is the direct sequel to the 2025 movie, began production in April 2026. Nicholas Hoult will return as Superman‘s ultimate archenemy, Lex Luthor, in the upcoming sequel. It is scheduled to premiere in theaters on July 9, 2027.
