Why Superman/Batman: Apocalypse Is A Great Watch Before Supergirl

The film primarily focuses on Supergirl’s arrival on Earth in a Kryptonian spacecraft and how it shakes up the entire planet. As Superman tries to help Kara adjust to her new life, Batman remains suspicious about why she has suddenly arrived on Earth. Meanwhile, Wonder Woman takes an interest in training the young Kryptonian. Their efforts are disrupted when Darkseid, the ruler of Apokolips, seeks to manipulate Kara and use her for his own benefit.
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse does a great job of putting Kara at the forefront, something fans are already looking forward to with Supergirl’s release around the corner. The story explores her emotional struggles, her connection to Krypton, and her efforts to define her own identity apart from her superhero cousin.
Even if you do not know anything about the character or her larger storylines, this movie offers a chance to immerse yourself in the story and become acquainted with Supergirl’s world without any prior knowledge.
The action also delivers exactly what fans expect from a Superman-Batman team-up. Batman’s strategic thinking complements Superman’s immense power, and both heroes ultimately unite to rescue Kara from Darkseid’s influence. The result is a fast-paced adventure that does not feel clichéd and also offers a strong story.
Superman/Batman: Apocalypse Starred The Late Kevin Conroy and Andre Braugher
Kara, Superman and Batman | Credits: Warner BrosOne of the film’s biggest draws today is its voice cast, which includes two acclaimed performers whose work continues to be celebrated by fans.
The movie features the late Kevin Conroy as Batman, widely regarded as the definitive voice of the Dark Knight thanks to his decades of work across multiple formats. Superman/Batman: Apocalypse gives Conroy the chance to portray Batman’s intelligence, skepticism, and unwavering determination.
The film also stars the late Andre Braugher as Darkseid. Acclaimed for his performance as Captain Holt in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Braugher was known for his gravitas and commanding screen presence. Even through voice acting alone, Braugher was able to bring new life to the menacing character, giving Darkseid an intimidating sense of authority throughout the film.
Alongside Conroy and Braugher, the cast includes Tim Daly as Superman, Summer Glau as Supergirl, and Susan Eisenberg as Wonder Woman. More than fifteen years after its original release, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse remains an entertaining watch, to say the least, for both longtime DC fans and newcomers, now streaming on HBO Max.
