Sterling Point Ending Explained: Do Annie and Ramona Get What They Want?

Prime Video’s Sterling Point takes a simple summer setup and turns it into something far messier. Created by Megan Park, the eight-episode drama follows 17-year-old Annie Jacobson, played by Ella Rubin, raised in New York with her twin brother Connor by their adoptive single dad, Steven. When their estranged grandfather Gordon dies and leaves them an island on a Canadian lake, Annie flies out to learn about the mother she barely remembers.

What she finds instead is Ramona, played by Amélie Hoeferle, a half-sister nobody told her about, and a pile of secrets that everyone around them spent years burying. By the finale, the show hands both girls an answer to the question they have been chasing all summer, just not the answer either of them asked for.

How Does Ramona’s Parenthood Reveal Change Her Relationship With Annie?

For most of the season, the answer to Ramona’s paternity looks settled. Annie and Ellis piece together that Joe, the marina owner and Goldie’s old flame (and Ellis’s father), is almost certainly Ramona’s father. They sit on it for a while, and when it finally comes out, Ramona confronts Joe herself.

He admits he was ready to leave Ellis and his wife to build a life with Goldie and the baby, but Goldie died in childbirth. Gordon took the baby in so Joe could go back to his family and keep the affair quiet. Then Episode 7 pulls the rug out.

Ramona finds out from Annie that Steven also has color blindness, as she did. She and Steven order a DNA test before saying a word to anyone. It comes back positive. Goldie and Steven’s fertility treatments had worked after all. Ramona is their biological daughter, and Joe never was her father.

For Annie, this lands like a punch. She and Connor were always the adopted kids, and it never bothered her until the sister she just found turned out to be the “real” one. She pulls away, and the bond the two of them spent the whole summer building starts to crack open.

How Does Annie Solve Their Dilemma?

The timing could not be worse for Ramona. Her relationship with Oona falls apart over a fight, Gordon is gone, and now Annie is keeping her at arm’s length. With nothing tying her to the island, she finally listens to Connor, who has been pushing to sell Sterling Point since the day he arrived and already has a buyer lined up in Rory’s mother, Denise.

Annie had always promised to follow whatever Ramona wanted, so she goes along with it at first. Then, on her last night on the island, she dreams about Goldie and imagines an entire life with her mother in it. She wakes up and refuses to sell, which only pushes Ramona further away.

The real turn comes right before Annie leaves for New York. She has one last conversation with Joe, who tells her about the night Goldie died. Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays it beautifully, and the detail that breaks the whole thing open is small and devastating. Their mother never got to hold Ramona.

Annie runs back to find her sister and instead catches Ramona and Steven hugging goodbye. This is probably when it clicks for Annie as to what to do about the whole situation. Ramona has spent her entire life being the girl with the dead mother and the absent father.

Annie had a dad who showed up for her every single day. So Annie stops trying to split the difference and simply trades places. Ramona gets the father and the life in New York. Annie takes the island, the empty cabin, and the mother-shaped hole that comes with it.

Where Do Annie & Ellis and Ramona & Oona End Up?

The season beautifully wraps up with two shots. Ramona wakes up in Annie’s bed in New York. Annie, back at Sterling Point, runs off the dock and jumps into the lake. What does this deal gain them? And what did it cost?

The cost lands hardest on Oona. Ramona leaving means leaving her behind, and the show makes clear that Oona chooses this too, when she hides from Ramona and tells her sister that it would make Ramona do what she wanted to do. It is the least satisfying ending of the bunch, and it is meant to sting.

Annie and Ellis, on the other hand, get the soft landing. With Annie staying, the two of them have their summer at the marina and the closest thing this show offers to a happy ending.

Connor quietly walks away with the biggest open thread. He has been searching for his and Annie’s biological mother, and she has agreed to meet him. None of it is tied off neatly, which feels deliberate.

A second season, if there is one, has plenty to work with, from whether Ramona actually wants the New York life she inherited, to whether Annie can handle island living once summer ends, to what happens when Connor finally sits across from the woman who gave them up. M.N. Miller of Fandomwire gave it a 6/10 in our review of Sterling Point, calling it an “endearing young-adult mystery.”
