Spider-Man 5 Could Finally Give Tom Holland the Marvel Hero He Wants in the MCU

Spider-Man 5 is already on our minds, even though Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Tom Holland’s latest chapter as Peter Parker, has only been out for a few days. The fifth movie in the franchise may continue Peter Parker’s story while also introducing the Miles Morales version. After all, why tell yet another story about Peter Parker and his troubles in New York when he could team up with a younger superhero and show him the ropes like Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark did for him? Also, there will come a day when he has to pass the baton, and who better for that than Miles? 

It seems only a matter of time before Miles debuts in the MCU. The character has already been teased. Donald Glover briefly appeared in Spider-Man: Homecoming as Aaron Davis, Miles’ uncle (who becomes the supervillain Prowler), and he talked about his “nephew”, whom he clearly has affection for. There is no concrete confirmation yet, mind you, about Miles being a part of Spider-Man 5. But Holland’s next solo movie as Spidey, which we are calling Spider-Man 5 for now, does not have to be a solo movie at all.

Tom Holland Has Wanted Miles Morales in the MCU for Years

The biggest reason for hope about Miles in Spider-Man 5 is that not only is Holland okay with Miles debuting in the MCU, but he has expressed enthusiasm for the same, even as far back as 2021. He talked about the possibility of passing the mantle while promoting Spider-Man: No Way Home. He said (via GQ):

Maybe it is time for me to move on. Maybe what’s best for Spider-Man is that they do a Miles Morales film. 

Now, in a new interview in which he also teases Spider-Man 5, Holland spoke about Miles Morales and said that his take on Peter Parker can serve as a bit of a mentor to Miles (which also happens in the comics). Holland said (via HobbyConsolas on YouTube):

I know I have aspirations to bring Miles Morales into the universe, however that works out. We’ve got a lot of work to do to bring that to life. But yeah… I feel incredibly grateful for the way I was introduced into this world and that I was shepherded by [Robert Downey Jr.] and I would kind of love to return that favor to the next generation of people that get that luxury of making these movies.

So, Miles’ Spidey will also undergo a similar trajectory. The MCU does not have to simply end Peter Parker’s story (for now, at least) and replace him after Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Peter, instead, could become the experienced superhero who is guiding somebody younger and less experienced than him, particularly in relation to the mantle of Spider-Man.

Peter does not have to be killed off. Miles and Peter, in comics and other media, co-exist and even team up to take on supervillains. This includes Sony Spider-Verse movies and Insomniac Games’ Spider-Man games. Now, that is something that has not happened in live-action Spider-Man media: Peter Parker being a mentor to a younger Spidey.

After making his first appearance in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, Peter has grown out of Tony Stark’s shadow, and by Spider-Man: Brand New Day, he has become an independent and confident superhero. He briefly took on the Hulk in the new movie. He also doesn’t need Iron Man to tell him what being an Avenger entails (the post-credits scene of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has him going off-planet, which may be a tease for Avengers: Doomsday).

Introducing Miles in Spider-Man 5 could bring Holland’s Peter Parker’s journey full circle.

Kevin Feige Gives Promising Update on Miles’ MCU Debut

While we are excited about what Holland has said about Miles and Spider-Man 5, it is what Feige has said that makes us much more confident. He is the Marvel Studios chief after all, and oversees the MCU slate. Feige was speaking on the promotional tour for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He confirmed that Marvel has plans for Miles’ live-action appearance. He did say that it can only happen once Sony wraps the Spider-Verse trilogy. The final movie, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is currently scheduled for June 18, 2027. Miles is the main Spidey in that franchise, and Shameik Moore voices the character.

Feige told Watching Hollywood (via Deadline):

The good news is, Sony has the Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse series, which are very popular and excellent, and Beyond the Spider-Verse is coming out next year. But yes, we definitely have plans [for a live-action Miles], and I think a live-action Spider-Man movie has this destiny: to add Miles sometime after the Spider-Verse series ends.

Sony’s animated trilogy should be finished by the time Spider-Man 5 goes into production. Apart from Homecoming, Spider-Man: No Way Home had a brief wink at Miles. Electro (played by Jamie Foxx) wondered aloud something to the effect of whether there is a black Spider-Man somewhere. Miles is an Afro-Latino teen. His father, Jefferson Davis, is African American, while his mother is Puerto Rican.

The MCU could also introduce Miles as a character, but not give him Spider-Man’s powers, in Spider-Man 5. Holland’s Peter Parker, you see, is at a genuinely independent stage of his superhero career. Brand New Day was also perhaps Tom Holland’s second-best Spider-Man movie. Perhaps give another movie to introduce Miles as just an ordinary teenager and allow him to befriend Peter and develop the relationship before it assumes a new dimension.

To reiterate, there is no confirmation that Miles will appear in Spider-Man 5. We also don’t know when and where his live-action debut will happen. But with the Spider-Verse trilogy ending next year, the pieces are beginning to line up.

Tom Holland’s fourth solo Spider-Man movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is now running in theaters. It was released on July 31, 2026.
