It all started way back in the MCU when Gunn directed and released the iconic 2014 film Guardians of the Galaxy. Gamora and Nebula were two of the finest female characters for which Gunn received love.

The two characters had great arcs throughout the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and in 2021, the director delved into the world of DC. In The Suicide Squad, he wrote three great female characters that the world remembers even today.

Amanda Waller, Harley Quinn, and Ratcatcher 2 in The Suicide Squad were three iconic characters written by James Gunn. However, the 2021 film was just a start for Gunn. The director would go on to write many more iconic female characters that the world would come to love.

It was just a start for James Gunn

After The Suicide Squad, James Gunn became the co-head of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran. Peacemaker was a spin-off series starring John Cena and Jennifer Holland.

Holland portrayed the role of Emilia Harcourt in the iconic show and Gunn received more appreciation for writing an iconic female character. With the recent release of Creature Commandos, Gunn added two more characters to his DCU roster.

Indira Varma voiced the role of Bride in the animated series, which is a reanimated corpse made with different body parts to serve as a companion of Frankenstein. Alongside the Bride, the world also got to meet Circe (voiced by Anya Chalotra).

These female characters written by James Gunn show just how powerful he is in creating scripts for projects that he is involved with. Although Zack Snyder may have had a different vibe in his movies in the DCEU, fans of the director will agree that James Gunn surely knows how to write a strong female character.

With the recent release, the show currently stands at a rating of 7.8/10 on IMDb and a whopping 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. Creature Commandos show is available to stream on Max in the U.S.
