Venom the Last Dance

SUMMARY

  • Venom: The Last Dance revealed that it's main antagonist is actually the Marvel Multiverse's biggest hitters: Knull.
  • It is possible the Knull is part of a bigger conspiracy that ties him into the MCU< given that Symbiotes share a consciousness across the multiverse.
  • Knull is also a major villain for Thor and The Silver Surfer, which could indicate that Sony Universe of Marvel Characters might be looking to be more closely tied to the MCU.

Venom: The Last Dance is set to close out Sony’s Venom trilogy, and the final trailer for the same casually dropped one of Marvel’s most dangerous villains into the multiverse. This character has already had a presence of sorts in the MCU, but the film will confirm whether the character will appear in its multiversal glory after all.

Knull, the God of the Symbiotes, has been confirmed to make his debut in Sony’s Universe of Spider-Man characters, and the character just blew Sony’s little universe wide open. Sony has two films in the franchise lined up, with Venom: The Last Dance and Kraven the Hunter. However, the presence of Knull in the universe has blown the connection to the MCU wide open, perhaps signaling that the two franchises will be more malleable to each other going forward.

Knull is in the Sony-Verse, and the Necrosword is in the MCU. How is it going to work?

The Multiverse Saga has established that Sony’s various versions of Spider-Man exist in the same universe as the MCU. Venom has stated that all symbiotes share a hive mind across the multiverse.

Audiences have seen the Necrosword, Knull’s prized weapon, in the hands of Gorr the God-Butcher, being a sword that mysteriously appeared when Gor slew the God of his people. This all would indicate that Knull could have played a hand in enabling The God Butcher, which suggests that there is only one Necrosword in the multiverse.

Knull could connect Thor, a character who has largely been alienated from the Multiverse Saga, back into the fold. It would not be the first time that Sony and Disney have decided to share a character, and given that Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield are expected to be part of Secret Wars, the former could be contributing to The Multiverse Saga in a significant manner.

Knull is not only an important part of Venom’s mythos, but also of Thor and The Silver Surfer

While the character was first named in Venom Vol. 4 #3, the character first appeared way back in 2013, in Thor: God of Thunder #6. The character was the chief antagonist of the King in Black storyline, which saw the X-Men, Avengers, Venom, and a host of other heroes fend off an invasion of Earth at the hands of Knull.

The character is too big for Marvel to give up so easily, narratively speaking, which would suggest that Knull might make an appearance in the MCU in a different manner.

After all, it remains to be explored why the Symbiote came to Tobey Maguire‘s Spider-Man universe, and how did the evil deity hand the blade to Gor. It would not be out of place if the character appeared in the MCU, perhaps as a servant of God Emperor Doom, in a bid to engage the Spider-Man side of the universe, while different hero factions deal with other villains. Further, Secret Wars was the storyline that famously gave Spider-Man his black suit, which could be factored into a wider plot including Knull.
