Solo Leveling Officially Confirms Jinwoo’s Next Power Upgrade in 2027

Solo Leveling fans finally got the news they’d been waiting for over a year. At Anime Expo 2026, Crunchyroll announced a brand new theatrical movie called Solo Leveling: Beyond the System, set for a 2027 release. The movie is going to pick up right after the Jeju Island arc (as per Crunchyroll).

This means Jinwoo might be heading back to the double dungeon (if the movie goes beyond the Ahjin guild arc), and along with it, gearing up for one of his biggest power upgrades yet: the Black Heart. If you’ve read the manhwa, you already know how huge this moment is. If you haven’t, don’t worry – here’s everything you need to know about what’s coming.

What Is the Black Heart in Solo Leveling?

The Black Heart isn’t an artifact like the ones Sung Jinwoo has picked up in dungeons offered to him by the system. It’s actually the literal heart and life vessel of Ashborn, the original Shadow Monarch. He is one of the entities created by the Absolute Being, and is said to be one of the strongest Monarchs. He is the source of the strongest ability that Jinwoo possesses as well: Arise.

Once Jinwoo gets the Black Heart, it starts beating inside his chest right next to his own human heart, glowing a deep purple. What does it actually do? Mainly, it gives Jinwoo a massive +100,000 mana boost that makes him far superior to any national-level hunter. Basically, now Jinwoo doesn’t have to worry about the size and reincarnation of his shadow army. He is, in a literal sense, a one-man army now. He can go all out without holding back.

The Double Dungeon Arc: How Jinwoo Gets the Black Heart

This all goes down in the Double Dungeon Arc. After making his own Ahjin guild (which is a minor arc that would be shown first in the movie), Jinwoo gets invited back to the same dungeon where he sacrificed himself and achieved the System. It’s a trap set by the Architect, the guy who created the System.

The Architect’s real plan was to use Jinwoo as a vessel so Ashborn could return. It was never about Jinwoo getting stronger; he was practically going to be sacrificed anyway, only for Ashborn to return. Jinwoo ends up engaging the Architect in a battle that fans are not ready for.

Once the Architect is defeated, Ashborn willingly passes down the Black Heart to Jinwoo, betraying the Architect and his schemes. This enables Jinwoo to transcend the entire system itself and become a Shadow Monarch, although yet incomplete. Now it should make sense why the movie is called “Beyond the System” in the first place.

What the Black Heart Means for Jinwoo’s Power in Beyond the System

Once Jinwoo has the Black Heart, he’s basically stepping into a whole new tier of power. He becomes an incomplete Shadow Monarch, strong enough to go toe-to-toe with average Monarchs, something he couldn’t dream of before. His abilities, which were already incredibly powerful, achieve a whole new height as well.

This is also the moment Jinwoo fully embraces being the Shadow Monarch and starts aiming even higher. From here on, his presence could even shake the National Level hunters, and he becomes the first call for help when a massive gate appears in Japan. Fans have been waiting to see this animated since the manhwa first dropped this twist, and now it’s finally happening on the big screen in 2027.
