According to the studio, the decision comes after extensive playtesting revealed that the game still needs additional work before it is ready to leave Early Access. Of course, we were just as hyped as you to get into the full release this fall, and Moon Studios says the delay will be used to improve performance, refine the new class system, and give the experience another round of polish.

The silver lining is that we will get a chance to try the upcoming 1.0 content before launch, with an open beta planned for December 2026.

No Rest for the Wicked 1.0 Delayed to March 2027

Moon Studios confirmed the delay today, on September 1, explaining that the team believes No Rest for the Wicked is simply not ready to ship in October. Creative director and CEO Thomas Mahler apologized to players in a video, noting that the studio has been working intensely on the game’s 1.0 content.

No Rest for the Wicked | 1.0 Delay Announcement

Since the last update, the studio has been adding content and implementing systems planned for the full release. The class system is one of the major additions, while performance improvements and general polish remain key priorities.

The studio has opted to give the project several additional months, instead of rushing it out on its original release date. Mahler notes that the team wants to deliver an experience that meets its ambitions rather than release a version it knows still has problems.

The game originally entered PC Early Access in April 2024, following its reveal at The Game Awards in December 2023. The dark fantasy action RPG combines Soulslike combat with traditional RPG progression, exploration, crafting, settlement development, and dungeon crawling.

The 1.0 launch is currently planned for PC and PlayStation 5 in March 2027. Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2 versions are still in development, although the studio has not provided release dates for either platform.

So while we do have to wait until March for the finished game, Moon Studios isn’t leaving us empty-handed. The studio has confirmed that an open beta will take place in December 2026. So despite the delay, we will get a chance to experience some of the new content and systems before the final release.

The December test is expected to feature the new class system alongside other 1.0 additions. The studio also plans to conduct additional closed testing before then, using player feedback to identify problems and make further improvements.

According to Mahler, the December test will be the final test for us to experience a version of No Rest for the Wicked before the 1.0 release in March.

The studio is also extending its Founders Pack offer for PC players. Anyone who purchases the Early Access version before January 1, 2027, will qualify for the rewards, including players who bought the game after the previous cutoff date. PlayStation 5 pre-orders will begin in January.

That said, we can expect to hear more news about the December beta and development progress through its social channels and Wicked Inside developer updates.
