Solo Leveling‘s Hunter system is built on one simple idea: a Hunter is only as dangerous as the ability they awaken. While rank determines a Hunter’s potential, it’s their unique skills that truly shape battles, topple dungeon bosses, and even influence the war between the Rulers and Monarchs. Some abilities excel at raw destruction, while others completely change how a fight unfolds.

We often discuss the strongest hunters in the series. However, with Solo Leveling: Beyond the System – The Movie officially confirmed as the franchise’s first theatrical movie, which will bridge Seasons 2 and 3 despite lacking a release date, now is the perfect time to revisit the series’ most broken Hunter abilities.

For this ranking, we evaluated each power based on combat feats, versatility, scalability, utility, battle impact, limitations, and overall influence on the story using canon from the manhwa, light novel, and anime. So, which abilities truly deserve the title of the most overpowered?

10 Healing Magic

User: Min Byung-gyu, Lee Juhee, and other healer-type Hunters

Min Byung-gyu’s S-rank healing magic allows him to manipulate light mana to instantly close fatal wounds, restore severed limbs, and erase fatigue. Its limitation is the massive drain on his personal mana pool and his lack of high-tier offensive output. During the Jeju Island Raid, he gets killed by Beru, then Byung-gyu’s shadow/soul gets extracted by Jinwoo, followed by Byung-gyu’s shadow single-handedly keeping the Korean S-rank raid team alive against the initial ant swarm.

Although Healing Magic is arguably the strongest support ability in the series, its lack of offensive power and dependence on the user’s mana reserves prevent it from ranking higher than abilities capable of deciding battles on their own.

9 Flame Spear

User: Choi Jongin

As the “Ultimate Soldier,” Choi Jongin utilizes Flame Spear to condense catastrophic amounts of fire magic into a highly concentrated, piercing projectile. While it requires a brief casting window and immense concentration, its destructive scaling is terrifying.

It ranks above Byung-gyu’s healing because pure, high-density offensive destruction stops threats before healing is even required. During the Jeju Raid, this single spell incinerated thousands of mutated ants instantly, demonstrating a scale of raw battlefield eradication that few human mages can ever match.

8 Barrier Magic

User: Yuri Orloff

Yuri Orloff’s specialized Barrier Magic allows him to erect massive magical barriers capable of restraining even elite Hunters. The glaring catch is its heavy reliance on external tools, requiring massive amounts of magic stones to sustain the seal against colossal pressure. During the Japan Crisis Arc, his barrier completely immobilized Kanae Tawata and Minoru Hoshino, demonstrating how effectively it can suppress powerful opponents.

However, the same barriers proved incapable of containing the advancing Giant monsters, exposing the ability’s greatest weakness. Its effectiveness ultimately depends on the strength of what it’s trying to hold. Those limitations keep it in eighth place, below the more scalable abilities on this list.

7 Beast Transformation

User: Baek Yoonho and other Beast-type Hunters

Baek Yoonho’s signature ability allows him to shapeshift into a ferocious, white-tiger humanoid creature, exponentially multiplying his physical strength, speed, and sensory perception. Although Yoonho is the strongest known Beast-type Hunter, others, such as Baek Miho (Yoonho’s daughter), also possess the same abilities. The only drawback is the loss of fine, human magical finesse in exchange for feral instinct.

It outranks Orloff’s barriers because it doesn’t rely on external variables like magic stones. Baek’s raw, unrestrained close-quarters combat scaling allowed him to tear through high-ranking monsters during the Jeju Island incident, proving that versatile, self-sustained physical dominance outperforms static containment.

6 Reinforcement Magic

User: Thomas Andre

Thomas Andre is a vessel of a Ruler and possesses Reinforcement Magic, which coats his body in condensed mana to massively boost his offense and defense. It allowed the world’s strongest Tank Hunter to withstand attacks that would overwhelm most S-Rank Hunters while trading blows with Sung Jinwoo.

Unlike Spiritual Body Manifestation, Reinforcement can be used repeatedly without the same drawbacks, making it an incredibly reliable combat ability. It ranks below the Ruler-based abilities because it mainly enhances the user rather than providing battlefield control or reality-defying utility.

5 Spiritual Body Manifestation

Users: Thomas Andre, Liu Zhigang, Christopher Reed, Siddharth Bachchan

Exclusive to Nation-Level Hunters acting as Rulers’ Vessels, this ability manifests a colossal, transcendent avatar of pure divine energy around the user. Its massive output places immense strain on a human body, limiting its active duration. It outranks standard reinforcement magic because it acts as a planetary-tier multiplier for every stat.

When Christopher Reed drew upon this power, it altered the local atmosphere and generated enough raw energy that can destroy the entire environment, cementing it as humanity’s ultimate defensive trump card.

4 Ruler’s Authority

Users: Go Gunhee, Liu Zhigang, Sung Jinwoo

Ruler’s Authority grants the user absolute, telekinetic control over the physical space around them, allowing them to pull, push, or crush objects and enemies without expending physical effort. It has no true cooldown, though it requires immense mental focus against heavier targets.

It ranks above the Spiritual Body because of its instant utility and lack of physical strain. Go Gunhee and Sung Jinwoo used it to manipulate entire battlefields mid-air, rendering incoming projectiles useless and completely neutralizing enemy mobility.

3 Detoxification & Regeneration

User: Sung Jinwoo

Granted through the System’s “Great Spellcaster’s Blessing,” this passive ability grants Jinwoo permanent immunity to all toxins, poisons, and status ailments, while accelerating cellular repair to heal mortal wounds instantly. Its only limit is that it functions automatically, sometimes counteracting regular stimulants like alcohol. It ranks third because survivability alone doesn’t win wars.

While the ability makes Jinwoo extraordinarily difficult to kill, it lacks the battlefield control of Ruler’s Authority and the limitless scaling of the top two abilities.

2 Dimensional Travel

User: Sung Jinwoo

Dimensional Travel allows Jinwoo to tear open space-time rifts, instantly crossing cosmic distances, moving between Earth, the Monarchs’ realms, and the gaps between dimensions. Its primary constraint is the massive amount of cosmic mana required to tear open reality. Although Jinwoo is the only Hunter who can use Dimensional Travel, the ability is also possessed by higher beings such as the Rulers, Monarchs, and Itarim (Solo Leveling: Ragnarok).

It ranks second because, despite its unmatched mobility, it doesn’t directly increase a user’s combat power. Shadow Extraction, by comparison, permanently expands Jinwoo’s army after every victory, giving it limitless long-term growth that no movement ability can rival.

1 Shadow Extraction / Necromancy

User: Sung Jinwoo

No Hunter ability in Solo Leveling scales harder than Shadow Extraction. Every powerful enemy Jinwoo defeats can permanently strengthen his Shadow Army, meaning victory continuously creates even greater future victories. Unlike temporary summons, his soldiers evolve, retain their combat experience, regenerate through mana, and include legendary warriors like Beru, Bellion, and Igris.

It takes the number 1 spot because it turns every slain enemy into a permanent upgrade for Jinwoo’s own army of millions. Entire wars shift because of this ability alone. More than simple necromancy, Shadow Extraction breaks Solo Leveling‘s power ceiling, making it the series’ most overpowered Hunter ability.
