Valve recently released its latest game, Deadlock. And it has been doing well for its first few weeks. Despite the game being in an invite-only beta, the game has drawn a ton of players and praise. And those who are playing it seem to be loving it.

On the other side of the hype though, Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) fans are a bit wary of what this might mean for the game. There was a recent social media post that compared the first patch for Deadlock to CS2‘s last update. Many fans wonder if CS2 becomes neglected like Team Fortress 2 (TF2).

Deadlock is The New Golden Goose For Now

Valve’s history with supporting its games has been mixed, and many longtime fans have witnessed the slow decline of TF2. Once a beloved title, TF2 is now plagued by issues such as rampant cheating, bots, and lack of updates. The game’s community now largely operates on private servers, and official support has all but disappeared.

Deadlock’s first update since its release added a whole bunch of new content. And it’s clear that the devs are heavily invested in its development. But in comparison, CS2’s recent updates have been full of small, negligible changes.

This isn’t really a surprise though because Deadlock is still in beta. So of course it it will get far more attention and resources than CS2. One of the most common complaints that CS fans have is the content that didn’t make it to CS2.

After the game’s transition to a new engine, many maps and features from the original Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS) were removed. One fan noted that Valve had stripped away “80% of the content” for a visual update, but failed to add them again afterwards.

Deadlock’s development during this beta has taken center stage. Valve’s new hero shooter is seeing regular updates. Fans are quick to point out that the game isn’t even fully out but is getting more content additions and bug fixes than CS2, a game that was supposed to be the company’s flagship competitive shooter.

It's so funny for me, that people compare cs2 to tf2, guys, CS2 has esports and is much bigger than tf2 ever has been. They will still update the game and make it better. They've almost fixed all bugs from beta (I'm sad it took so long, but at least we have bettter game now).

This is obviously a bit of a stretch because, despite these concerns, not everyone believes CS2 is doomed to the same neglect as TF2. CS2 has a massive ongoing esports presence right now and regularly hosts international esports events.

Counter-Strike is also a household name in the FPS genre. Just that alone will easily keep players in the game for the next few years unless the devs completely fumble somehow.

Valve’s track record with games like TF2 and Dota 2 has left some CS2 players skeptical about the game’s long-term future. Even though Deadlock is in the spotlight right now, CS2 is the company’s biggest player in the competitive gaming scene.

But will CS2 eventually be neglected like TF2? Nobody knows. What are your thoughts? Let us know in the comments!
