A six-year-old girl died Sunday after being hit by a vehicle in Tweed.

Central Hastings OPP officers, Tweed firefighters and Hastings Quinte paramedics went to the scene, on Jamieson Street West, just after 1:30 p.m.

Life-saving measures were attempted by an off-duty nurse and others, police said in a news release Monday, but the girl was pronounced dead after being rushed to hospital.

The vehicle and driver remained at the scene, police said.

The town of Tweed is located about 190 km southwest of Ottawa, just off Highway 7.

The name of the victim will not be released, the OPP said.

The investigation continues, and anyone who saw the incident take place or who may have relevant dashcam video was asked to contact Central Hastings OPP at 1-888-310-1122 and refer to incident number E241170006.
