Ottawa police are investigating a Thursday night homicide on Heron Road, the force said in a post on the social media site X.

“One person has been confirmed deceased. There is no known threat to public safety at this time,” the Ottawa Police Operations account said. “No further information will be released pending next of kin notifications.”

The victim was shot at the Herongate shopping plaza, according to a Facebook post by Alta Vista Coun. Marty Carr. Early Friday, she said “Many witnesses have come forward. The scene has been processed and released.”

“I understand residents are concerned and look forward to hosting a much needed Community Safety meeting in the coming months,” Carr said.

More to come…
