Silent Hill 2 Kill Mandarins

SUMMARY

  • The Mandarin is encountered a few times throughout the game.
  • The Mandarin’s Leg Sweep attack is easy to dodge and gives a window for melee hits.
  • Using the Shotgun is key for dealing with the Mandarin’s slow recovery after its attacks.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is packed with some pretty creepy and horrifying monsters, and one of the most challenging creatures is the Mandarin. This wall-crawling monster with long arms and a freaky tongue first makes an unexpected entry on the third floor of the Lakeview Hotel, smashing through a wall to attack James.

After this, you can encounter it a few more times in the rest of the game. This guide breaks down the Mandarin’s attack patterns and the best ways to defeat it, making quick work of the miniboss.

How to Kill Mandarins in Silent Hill 2 Remake

When fighting the Mandarin in Silent Hill 2 Remake, you’ll notice it has a few key attacks. One of the most common is the Leg Sweep. The Mandarin clings to the ceiling and tries to hit you with a sweeping motion using its leg.

It’s important to keep an eye on it when it’s up there, but if you time it right, you can dodge and then get in close for some melee hits. Since it doesn’t have many other ceiling attacks, you can use this as a chance to stay aggressive.

Another attack to watch out for is the Double Slam. The Mandarin leaps from the ceiling and slams both arms down hard. If it misses, this is your chance to hit back. It moves slower on the ground, which makes it even easier to attack after dodging. You’ve got a good window to land some shots or melee attacks while it recovers.

One of the trickier moves is the Tongue Lash, where it quickly lashes its tongue straight at you. It happens fast, so you have to be ready to dodge. There’s also a Roar that it lets out, which won’t hurt you, but it will stagger James for a bit, so don’t let your guard down when it happens.

If you have a Shotgun, it’s a great weapon to use against the Mandarin, especially after dodging the aforementioned attacks. It’s slow enough that you can land solid shots from a distance, and the damage from the Shotgun does really add up over time.

Best Strategies for Beating the Mandarin

The Mandarin can be a tough fight in Silent Hill 2 Remake, but there are some key strategies to help make it easier. When the Mandarin is on the ceiling, get up close and go for some melee attacks.

It’s a good chance to deal damage without taking much yourself. If you’re patient and wait for its Slam Attack, you can dodge it and follow up with even more hits when it’s vulnerable on the ground.

Tip

Watch out for its follow-up Tongue Lash after you’ve dodged its Slam.

You’ll want to stay mobile, always dodging its attacks while looking for openings. Stick to this strategy, and you’ll be able to bring the Mandarin down without too much trouble.

You’ll first come across Mandarins in South Vale’s Otherworld area, after unlocking a door with a Wrench and heading through a long, dark tunnel. While you can’t defeat them here, they’ll stalk you through parts of the Labyrinth.

The real fight happens at the Lakeview Hotel. After grabbing the Cinderella Figurine on the third floor, the Mandarin will break through the wall for an intense fight. Make sure to have your Shotgun ready, and use the strategy mentioned above to make quick work of it.
