HBO recently released a brand-new preview for The Last of Us Season 2, which will premiere in April of this year. Even though the teaser trailer is only a little under a minute long, there are still several situations, characters, and images that are worth seeing in greater detail.
We first saw the aftermath of Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey) in The Last of Us‘ most crucial scenario, along with the appearance of a terrified Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) and the sight of a bladed sickle weapon, in the most recent teaser. And that is where the problem arises, as fans haven’t liked the appearance of Bella Ramsey as Ellie.
Fans didn’t like the portrayal of Ellie by Bella Ramsey in The Last of Us
Bella Ramsey’s performance in the first season of HBO’s live-action version of The Last of Us was outstanding. However, because of their appearance, the performance was overlooked as their appearance worries the community more than their skill. The gaming community did not choose Ramsey as the first choice to play Ellie Williams and that impression still lasts.
The second season’s new teaser trailer is here, and Ramsey is once again facing criticism for the same reasons they were targeted in the first season. The controversy has reached a whole new level as Ramsey will play the role once again after Ellie’s significant age leap in the second season. The main concern is the age difference between the original game, which came out in 2013 when Ellie was 14 years old, and its follow-up, which came out in 2020 when she was 19.
Bella Ramsay’s current task is to play a character who was 14 years old in Season 1 but is now 19 in Season 2. We already know that Ramsey’s video game counterpart is powerful, cunning, and competent. It’s unclear how the live-action series will modify these moments, but it’s undeniable that it will depart from the original.
A departure from the actual game might have already been hinted
In TLOU Part II, we see Dina giving birth to JJ, who happens to be Jesse’s child. But shockingly, a scene in the Season 2 teaser might make you believe that not Dina, but Ellie will be giving birth to a child. In this scene, Ellie is seen crying heavily and looks like giving birth.
This would be an alteration from the game if it were to happen. Naughty Dog might be the catalyst for a shift in the series’ dynamics and a departure from the game. There could be other possibilities, too, such as Ellie killing a significant game character in a terrible nightmare. Now, since anything can happen, these are all just conjectures. The true story won’t be known until April.
It is Ramsey’s job to use a different format to portray the feeling of Ellie that the game director intended to communicate, and players are prepared for another emotional rollercoaster. Let’s see how Ramsey overcomes all the criticisms and also their previous performance in the first season to shut the mouths of those critics.
