Sandra Bullock is currently not dating anyone after the unfortunate passing of her longtime partner Bryan Randall in 2023. However, she is known to have dated a few high-profile stars including some of her co-stars. Interestingly, the media didn’t catch on to these relationships until later, despite the actress dropping clues during her press interviews.
Bullock dated A Time to Kill co-star Matthew McConaughey. While Bullock was a star then, it was McConaughey’s first lead role in a drama. They dated from 1996 to 1998. In 2002, she fell for another co-star. After filming Murder by Numbers, she and Ryan Gosling dated for some time until 2003.
Sandra Bullock wasn’t exactly discreet about two of her high-profile relationships
Sandra Bullock famously dated co-stars and A-listers Matthew McConaughey and Ryan Gosling. This was before both McConaughey and Gosling found their respective partners in Camila Alves and Eva Mendes. When Bullock was dating McConaughey, it wasn’t headline news but Bullock didn’t try to keep it a big secret either.
During an interview with Cosmopolitan, Bullock opened up about her relationships. Bullock shared that she had a hard time being “just friends”. She shared that she would pursue a relationship if both the man and woman share great chemistry and are single. She shared that movie sets were breeding grounds for relationships and added that one needed a good set of rules going into it. She shared:
The interviewer then pointed out that Bullock told the press she was friends with McConaughey and refrained from using the word “just”. She was dating him at the time and the description wasn’t technically true. When asked about a romance with Gosling which was ongoing at the time, she joked:
Bullock went on to marry Monster Garage host Jesse James in 2005. However, the relationship ended right around the time she won an Oscar because of cheating allegations against James.
What did Matthew McConaughey and Ryan Gosling think of Sandra Bullock?
Matthew McConaughey had the hots for another co-star from A Time to Kill before he pursued a relationship with Sandra Bullock. He dated Ashley Judd, who played his on-screen wife, for a brief time. However, he was later drawn to Bullock after becoming close friends with her. She still maintains a close relationship with the actor. She shared with Cosmopolitan:
The Interstellar actor too shared a great amount of respect for his co-star. At the Guys Choice Awards 2014, he spoke highly of her, “I’ve worked with you. I’ve tried to kiss you, successfully and unsuccessfully … I’m glad to have known you for over twenty years.”
Gosling and Bullock’s relationship caught attention as she was 16 years senior to him. In 2011, he shared with The Times UK that he considered Sandra Bullock and Rachel McAdams to be two of the greatest girlfriends he’d ever had. He shared, “I had two of the greatest girlfriends of all time. I haven’t met anybody who could top them” (via UsWeekly).
