While WWE legend Seth Rollins was previously spotted on the set of the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World and was speculated to have a role in the Marvel blockbuster, he will now have a ringside seat when the film releases. Because according to his recent interview on the Insight podcast with Chris Van Vliet, Rollins confirmed that he will not be in the final cut of the film.
It seems that after his wife Becky Lynch’s supposed character was omitted from Chloé Zhao-directed 2021 film Eternals, even Seth Rollins is suffering the same fate. They seem to be the unluckiest couple from the WWE universe who got their roles removed from the final cut of their respective MCU films.
Seth Rollins is no longer a part of Captain America: Brave New World
With Anthony Mackie’s Captain America: Brave New World being the hot topic from the Marvel Universe, several renowned celebrities have made headlines following their possible appearance and cameos in the movie. One among them happened to be the WWE legend Seth Rollins, who was previously spotted on set suited up alongside the rest of the Serpent Society.
Since then, WWE and MCU fans got all hyped with the possibility of witnessing Seth Rollins make his Marvel debut with the upcoming Captain America movie. But unfortunately, after the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes shut down Hollywood, and the studio took the opportunity to make certain changes to the plot, several characters were left on the cutting room floor.
And sadly, Seth Rollins appeared to be one among them, who got omitted from the film. During his appearance on the Insight podcast with Chris Van Vliet, the WWE star thus confirmed the news that he’ll no longer appear in Captain America: Brave New World. Explaining how his role was edited after reshoots and rewrites, Rollins urged his fans to not look for him in the film.
It releases in February. I wish it the best, but I am not a part of that film… Truth be told, any answer I gave would only be my opinion on it. The script went through a lot of rewrites and reshoots so what I was there to do, essentially my role got either repurposed or completely erased.
My understanding was there were just a lot of rewrites and a lot of reshoots, and they know they’ve got a finished product that hopefully they’re happy with, and hopefully it’s successful, but it will be sans Seth Rollins.
It was previously said that the Serpent Society’s scenes were going to be part of a major action set piece in Captain America: Brave New World‘s first act. But now that Seth Rollins confirmed his omission from the film, it makes us wonder about the changes made by Marvel, and how it might affect the storytelling.
Seth Rollins is suffering the same MCU fate as his wife Becky Lynch
Meanwhile, it seems Seth Rollins is set to join his wife Becky Lynch on their journey of disappointment from Marvel Studios, especially since Lynch was previously omitted from Eternals, much like Rollins. According to former Variety reporter Kris Tapley’s tweet (via CBR), Lynch was said to have allegedly boarded an upcoming Marvel movie in 2020.
Later on, it was disclosed that the unnamed movie was actually Chloé Zhao-directed 2021 film Eternals, wherein Becky Lynch was supposed to appear in a post-credit scene. The former Women’s Champion was said to have been hired for an undisclosed role opposite Harry Styles as Eros/Starfox. But then, reports from wrestling news outlet Fightful Select, revealed that she was eventually excluded from the final cut.
The outlet revealed that Marvel’s decision to cut the scene had absolutely nothing to do with Becky Lynch herself, as the studio was actually quite happy with her performance. But then, due to unknown reasons, Lynch lost her role much like her husband recently did, for Captain America: Brave New World.
Captain America: Brave New World is scheduled to be released on February 14, 2025.
