Scary Movie 6 Cast Guide: Every Original Actor Returning to Franchise

There’s something fitting about the new Scary Movie arriving 13 years after a fifth installment whose Wayans DNA was so diluted it barely registered. Marlon Wayans has alleged that he and Shawn were effectively pushed out after Scary Movie 2 when Harvey Weinstein declined the terms of their contract (per Variety). There’s no denying that the series’ downfall coincided with their departure. This reunion, then, feels like a correction.

The film takes aim at reboots, remakes, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, and more. And that’s the only honest way to come back. The trailer alone spoofs Sinners, Weapons, The Substance, Wednesday, Get Out, Smile, Terrifier, and Longlegs. Here’s every original cast member returning to make it happen.

1 Anna Faris as Cindy Campbell

In many ways, Cindy is the load-bearing wall of the entire franchise. Anna Faris did not appear in Scary Movie 5, and that film’s collapse, both in quality and in audience affection, was no coincidence. Cindy Campbell is the heart of it all.

Faris and her co-star Regina Hall said in a statement (via Variety): 

We can’t wait to bring Brenda and Cindy back to life and be reunited with our great friends Keenen, Shawn and Marlon — three men we’d literally die for (in Brenda’s case, again).

Still, it’s been 20 years since we last saw our final girl, and we’re eager to see her again.

2 Regina Hall as Brenda Meeks

If Faris is the franchise’s spine, Regina Hall is its id. Brenda Meeks operates on a frequency of gloriously weaponized selfishness, and Hall has always played her with total commitment and zero condescension. Hall appeared in each of the first four Scary Movie films and also sat out the fifth installment. Her return alongside Faris is the reunion this franchise has needed for more than a decade.

3 Marlon Wayans as Shorty Meeks

The guy who arguably cares most about getting this right, given his personal history, is Marlon Wayans. He co-wrote and starred in the first two films with his brothers Shawn and Keenen. Together, they built a franchise from a $19 million production that grossed $278 million worldwide on its first installment alone (per Box Office Mojo). And then they were pushed out of it.

Shorty is back, though, and so is one of the men who actually created this thing. Wayans has previously said he specifically wanted to parody four horror movies from the past decade.

4 Shawn Wayans as Ray Wilkins

Ray exists somewhere between obliviousness and catastrophic denial. It’s a comic mode Shawn Wayans played with an almost jazz-like looseness in the original films. He now reprises the role for the first time since Scary Movie 2. His absence from the third, fourth, and fifth installments was felt more than most people admitted at the time.

5 Jon Abrahams as Bobby Prinze

Bobby was the franchise’s Sidney Prescott boyfriend stand-in — the guy you suspected from the start and were usually right about. Jon Abrahams returns as Bobby Prinze from the original Scary Movie. It’s a character built around one sustained joke, but Abrahams made it work with a knowing smirk.

6 Lochlyn Munro as Greg Phillippe

Greg Phillippe is the franchise’s Ray Bronson stand-in: attractive, sinister, and mostly useless. Lochlyn Munro reprises the role of Greg, who appeared only in the first installment. His return suggests that the new film is genuinely paying homage to the original.

7 Dave Sheridan as Doofy Gilmore

Doofy remains one of the original film’s great comic achievements. He’s a character so committed to a single, escalating, deeply stupid bit that by the end, it almost feels avant-garde. Dave Sheridan returns as Doofy Gilmore from the first Scary Movie. Given that film’s ending, the way they bring him back will either be the funniest joke in the movie or a complete cheat. Probably both.

8 Anthony Anderson as Mahalik

Anthony Anderson returns as Mahalik, who previously appeared in Scary Movie 3 and Scary Movie 4. He’s easily the most enduring character of the post-Wayans exile era — a character with real momentum, played by Anderson with the kind of physicality the franchise desperately needs.

9 Cheri Oteri as Gail Hailstorm

Gail Hailstorm is the franchise’s answer to Gale Weathers (if the name didn’t make that obvious enough) a gloriously self-important spoof of Courteney Cox’s Scream persona. With Scream spending its last few installments practically doing the Wayans brothers’ job for them — becoming, at this point, something of a parody of its own legacy — there’s something almost poetic about Cheri Oteri returning to the role now. And we can’t wait.

10 Chris Elliott as Hanson

The wild card. Chris Elliott will reprise his role in this horror comedy movie as Hanson, the mansion caretaker from Scary Movie 2. He also played Ezekiel, a village oddball, in Scary Movie 4. Elliott’s brand of deeply committed, slightly off-putting physical comedy is one of those elements the franchise used sparingly enough to keep potent. Whatever they give him to do here, the ceiling is high.
