Harry’s appearances come amid increased tensions with Buckingham Palace over King Charles’ guidance letter

Prince Harry is ready to tackle his first public engagements this month since returning to the U.K.

The Duke of Sussex will attend WellChild Awards in London on Sept. 21. He has been patron of the charity for seriously ill children, since 2007.

“It is always a privilege to be part of the WellChild Awards and to meet the extraordinary children, young people, families and professionals whose courage and determination inspire us all,” Harry said in a statement.

“This year feels particularly special as we celebrate 20 years of the WellChild Nurse program, two decades of supporting thousands of children and families and helping them to live more of their lives at home,” he continued.

“These awards are a wonderful opportunity to celebrate that impact, but above all to celebrate the incredible people at the heart of it,” the Duke added. “Their stories are a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through compassion, connection and community.”

The 41-year-old Harry will also attend the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards and the launch of Invictus’ education program, INSPIRE, later this month, according to the Telegraph.

Ongoing feud

Harry’s appearances come amid increased tensions with Buckingham Palace over King Charles’ guidance letter clarifying the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s status as “private citizens,” and any appearances made would not be on behalf of the Royal Family.

Harry and Meghan bowed out of royal duties in 2020 when they moved to California and the agreement on their roles still stands.

In any case, Meghan sightings will be rare as she is not expected to be seen in public in the coming months, the outlet reported.

“He has his work and she has hers, which is not so public-facing,” one friend said. “It will be rare to see her or to see them together.”

New York, then Toronto

He is scheduled to head to New York on Sept. 22 to attend the Clinton Global Initiative annual meeting, according to the outlet.

He is also set to return to Toronto to take part in a charity skydive for the Sunnybrook Foundation this month, nearly a year after he met and bonded with Ed Marshall, a 102-year-old veteran of the Second World War.

“This September, Prince Harry will take to the skies alongside fellow veterans for a fundraising skydive in honour of Sunnybrook Veteran Ed Marshall,” the foundation said in a news release.

“Ed’s grandson Bailey will proudly carry on his grandfather’s fearless legacy as part of the day. The jump will support Sunnybrook and True Patriot Love Foundation — two organizations dedicated to serving Canada’s military and veteran communities.”
