On April 17, Ford said the plane was planned to be used by the government to transport Ford and other government officials to and from the United States as well as throughout Ontario, noting it could also be used in emergencies “as well to move people.”
The premier said it was “much cheaper” for Ontario to buy its own plane in the long run, rather than chartering one or flying a commercial route. He called the plane an investment in Ontario.
Days after the purchase and backlash from opposition parties and some members of the public, Ford nixed plans on keeping the plane.
“Despite the best of intentions, I have heard and agree that now is not the right time for the expense of a government plane,” the premier said in a statement.
