However, it seems like there’s something new for the franchise on the horizon. Rumors suggest that PlayStation consoles will soon get a Death Note game published by Bandai Namco. Although the scope of the project isn’t clear yet, it can outclass the best detective game of all time, L.A Noire if it sticks to one fan suggestion.

Death Note Video Game Must Follow One Fan Suggestion

Death Note might not be the first thing one thinks about when considering anime video games, but an adaptation is on its way for PlayStation systems. The iconic story of Light Yagami and his deadly notebook capable of eliminating anyone has been adapted multiple times. However, there still aren’t any good options for those who want to get a full-fledged experience of the series through the lens of a video game.

When adapting anime series into video games, video game developers often take the path established by fighters such as One Punch Man: A Hero Nobody and Dragon Ball Sparking Zero. While it’s difficult to imagine the genre working well for Light Yagami and his adventures, the developers can bring something new to the table by considering one Redditor’s suggestion.

Bandai must bring a Death Note game that focuses on a normal police perspective, just like LA. Noire during Kira’s reign of terror. The gameplay could involve investigating a number of mysterious deaths, unraveling Kira’s impact, and watching police departments head into chaos.

We must also see occasional appearances by L as the head of police briefings, and Light’s involvement in the overall investigation can bring the same tense narrative as the manga and anime.

If the developers follow this route, they can easily topple L.A Noire when it comes to detective games. This is a 2011 detective video game that’s set in 1940s Los Angeles and is considered to be the peak of the detective game genre as it brought ground-breaking gameplay mechanics and action sequences we’d never seen before.

When is the Death Note Game Coming Out?

While Death Note still continues to pull in new readers and anime viewers over two decades since its initial release, its presence in video games has been quite weak compared to Shonen Jump. The game will undoubtedly push the franchise to the next level, and gamers can’t wait to get their hands on it.

Unfortunately, there’s still no official release date or title announced for the Death Note game. Bandai has already developed several games on various Shonen Jumps, so it has the experience it needs to craft a masterpiece.

The fact that it will also be a PlayStation exclusive will certainly help Sony as its latest offering, PS5 Pro, has been subject to massive backlash. The unannounced anime game will give the console another exclusive title that it desperately needs.

With that said, what would you like to see in a Death Note video game? Let us know in the comments below.
