Netflix’s Heartstopper has received much critical acclaim and praise from the audience for its portrayal of the LGBT community. The show’s pacing and tone were applauded along with the performance of leads Joe Locke and Kit Connor.
Recently an older tweet from the original webcomic’s author Alice Oseman resurfaced. The post contained fan art of the two characters depicted as popular members of the Young Avengers. Fans noticed the resemblance and quickly started to speculate if Conner would be joining his co-star in upcoming Marvel projects.
The post which gave fuel to the rumor mill
Alice Oseman’s popular webcomic series was picked by Netflix, and Heartstopper swiftly climbed the ladders to become a must-watch. The show explored the dynamics between two characters, Nick Nelson and Charlie Spring in a coming-of-age comedy-drama.
The actors playing the roles, Joe Locke and Kit Connor also gained massive recognition and fame among fans. Locke was also seen in the Marvel show, Agatha All Along and has been speculated to be Wiccan.
Joe Locke in Agatha All Along | Credits: Disney+This is when a 2019 tweet from Oseman resurfaced, that depicted her webcomic’s characters as Wiccan and Hulkling. With his co-star already making his Marvel debut, fans were quick to theorize that Connor would also allegedly follow in his footsteps.

They also noticed a strong resemblance between the actors and the fan art of the young heroes, further convincing them of the fact.

Locke and Connor have previously proven their chemistry through Euros Lyn’s teen drama, so their dynamic would lead to a greater chance of success.
The upsetting denial: Lost hopes?
Unfortunately, contrary to the viewers’ opinion the actor in question did not agree with the fan cast. Connor spoke to Omelete in an interview, translated from Portuguese by Comic Book Movie, about the circulating rumors.
I don’t think I would be a good choice for Hulkling, to be honest, I think people would get tired of seeing me and Joe together eventually, if we kept doing this over the next few years.
The Rocketman actor claimed he wasn’t on board with his fan’s decision and wouldn’t make a good Hulkling. He also praised his co-star’s performance in the Marvel show, stating he was proud of the fame Locke was achieving.

However, with his co-star’s refusal to play his romantic interest, it’s unclear of the pair’s potential future with Marvel.
People online believe Oseman’s old tweet might be a good omen that could turn the tables for the duo’s career. Their hopes might come true if the franchise does end up persuading Connor to join on board as Locke’s partner.
